Mysia lay in her hammock that night, longing to be care-free and happy like Ilizenda and Esmerelda.
But she had a dark secret that she needed to keep. If it was just her's, she would share it. But Mysia had to think about Aisha and Raishi.
Mysia whined a low hiss of frustration. She didn't know what to do. Follow her heart, or Raishi's orders. -
(alright)
The mob from the other tribe was running very close to the palm trees, and I prayed that they wouldn't notice us. -
I shivered. It was growing cold, and I was without my mother's shawl. It was with my dress, which was back in the village.
-
But luck wasnt with me. An woman in her 30's looked inside the four palm trees and noticed us. She said something to her husband and they pulled us out of the space by our hair.
-
Mysia crept along in the dark. Her decision was made, she would follow her heart.
She could hear breathing from up ahead and saw Ilizenda and Esmerelda up ahead. -
I struggled to pull my hair out of their grip, but it only hurt more. I looked at the people with fright, hoping against hope that my family was alright.
-
We were pulled to their village and tied up. I heard one of the men speaking about cooking us for dinner the next night. I couldnt sleep after that.
-
-
(What the heck? Oh well.)
Mysia froze. She could smell a scent other than that of Izilenda and Esmerelda's. The fragrance of another tribe wafter through the air on a humid breeze. Mysia knew that they were in trouble. -
"W-what do you think they'll do to us?" I asked, trying to avoid eye contact with any of the people.
-
"I heard them talking about cooking us for dinner." I said. Then I realized I had to confess about something to Ese. "I have to tell you something. A couple years ago, my village robbed this one when my father left for medicine for our mother, who wasn't dead at the time. Since then, this village hates us. Im pretty sure that we'll be beaten before we are cooked. Im sorry I got you into this."
-
Mysia crept along the huts of the opposing village, and saw Izilenda and Esmeralda. She waved without the tribesmen noticing.
-
"Well, it's okay. I mean, it's not like you could help it. You didn't have a say in whether it was robbed, right?" I said, looking at the ground.
-
"I was very little, who would bother listening to me?" I said. "Listen, I think you deserve to live. I'm planning to fight the tribesmen when they release us from the ropes to cook us. When I start to fight, run to those caves. Mysia lives there, she'll help you." I said in a trembling voice thinking about what will happen if I don't succeed.
-
"But, what happens to you? You can't possibly fend them all off." I said, my voice just as shaky as her's. "No, I will not go unless I know you're safe."
