I was losing a lot of blood. I could feel it. I managed to choke out "go.....forward to....the..the...waterfalls....turn...right...at...the..coconut..trees"
-
"get...help.." I said, and then fell uncouncious.
-
I nodded and followed her instructions. But before doing so I made a make-do bandage out of some palm fronds. Medical aid was something I thrived in at studies, especially when forced to use objects from the wild.
-
I could feel something cool wrap around me. I wanted to see what it was, but was too weak. I started to see images from my life. Mom before she died, going through mom's stuff, my first campfire, my first love, jumping behind the fire when arrows were thrown a you, and most importantly, the first time I saw Ese and her family.
-
I turned right at the coconut trees, just as I was told. But, unfortunatly, I wasn't looking where I was going. I was thinking of Izelenda when I tripped over a rock, rather painfully I might add.
-
I felt very sleepy, but I knew, that if I fell asleep, I would die. I started desperately grabbing on to life. Trying to fight the sleep. But I knew that I wouldn't be able to fight much longer. If help doesnt arrive quickly, I will be dead in a matter of minutes.
-
I was helped up by a man around the age of thirty. I told him about Izelenda and he listened intently. He gathered a few other men and followed me to where she lay.
-
I could hear rustling in forest. Had Ese brought help? I tried to fight the sleep more, hoping that they could make it in time.
-
One of the men picked Izelenda up and brought her back to the village. He walked inside a large piiece of cloth which I was told was a 'tent'. The other men followed, as well as the woman who took the fruit basket from me.
-
I don't know what happened next, I guess I started to give in to the sleep. But in a few hours I knew I was wrong. I woke up on my bed, my wounds bandenged up and disinfected.
-
I had sat next to Izelenda's bed after she had been bandeged. I don't know when, but I fell asleep. And my dreams were filled with life back in England.
-
Everyone was around me. My dad, Ese, Ese's dad, Ese's little brother, and the 10 more people from my tribe. Then my father broke the silence.
"You were willing to give you own life for someone else's. I am proud of you. Only a decedant of our family could go on such a risky task." -
When I awoke, everyone was here. My father and brother, the chief, and many others I did not know. Thomas climbed into my lap and hugged me, I hugged him back and listened to what Izelenda's father was saying.
-
I was still in a bit of pain, but nearly as much as before. "Thanks dad." I murmured, still feeling weak.
-
"Are you okay?" Thomas asked Izelenda, the worry in his voice clear. I was shocked, he had only used the tone of voice with people inside our family.
