Sopranos - they carry the melody!
Altos - they're the harmony and they keep the rest together, they are the middle and without them, they sound choppy and broken!
Tenors and Basses - the low parts of the harmony, they even out the playing field! high AND low!
Personally, I love the Altos, they usually have the best parts of the songs. -

I guess I'm either a tenor or bass, yet I don't think I'm that good at singing.. And to me they all sound good together

Hmm. Honestly, they're all of equal importance. If one doesn't quite fit, the whole piece falls apart. They balance and thrive off of each other. Ever notice how a song without harmony sounds a bit off? Each voice part depends on the others. They work off of each other. Now, the song or composition definitely grants a particular section more significance, if need be. Generally, they're all on the same level. They thrive off of each other, like organisms in an ecosystem. I'm a soprano, if that's of any interest.

depending on the song, it works if certain parts are missing sometimes too
but I digress, I'm a soprano-tenor so I' might be a little biased, I listen to the altos intently when they sing so it always sounds like they have the best parts.... -

motibutton NewbieDepends on the music. Some things are better sung by sopranos, some by altos or mezzos, some by tenors and some by basses. It really all depends on what piece they are singing.

@FL I'd take offense to that if I wasn't an alto originally. Could you elaborate why you hate them so much? Just curious
