  Newsflash Brooke- there were female rappers before Nicki Minaj. Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Salt N Pepa way back. Have there been alot more male rappers? Yes, but that's the point. Nicki Minaj may be a rarity, but she isn't an original.

  Beastie Boys and unfortunately Vanilla Ice did come before Eminem, yes. But Kaitie pretty much said what makes him great- he was the first rapper who connected with the massive audience of angry white kids because they were going through the same s--- he had to go through.
