Thread Topic: Where did all the creativity go?

Why is it that I can't look through this forum without being overwhelmed by the sheer wall of people who are so incompitant that they have to create fan-fics of stories that already exist?
Warrior cats, Hunger games, and Harry Potter. I feel like that's all I see. Nothing original. Nothing new or fresh. You people take an idea that you STOLE, and beat it in to the ground. That's not writing. That's not practicing or developing as a writer. That's borrowing from elsewhere. That's letting someone else do the work for you, and you just add your own little details. It's pathetic.
I try to make it a personal habit to always support and give positive criticism to anyone I see actually writing an original story. I suck at poetry so I avoid that, but I do enjoy reading people's original stories. But it feels like the longer I look, the less and less frequently people actually can be original. STOP WRITING FAN-FICS. IF YOU HAVE SO MANY "GOOD" IDEAS, WRITE THEM IN YOUR OWN DAMN WORLD. CREATE A NEW UNIVERSE WITH A NEW SET OF RULES AND NEW PLACES. Stop stealing from the literature of others and go out there and make your own mark on the world. Create your own universe with your own dynamic characters and plots. Don't just rehash an idea. A machine can do that. A toddler can make a character. I want to see you all make worlds!
Sadly though, the people that this applies to will never see it. And even if they do, they won't listen. -
I might start making literature stuff on here, you could look if you want! :)
-
....Well, I'm not in a good position to post any of my ideas right now, but I can assure you I have many and would like to in the near future.
-
i could, and i am. im currently writing a book in RL in a old composition book.
-
I'm working on several books, one has 13 chapters, one has 7 chapters, one has one chapter, and my head is filled with ideas. I want to copyright my stuff before posting it since other people might steal my hard work and call it their own
-
I know right? Before I used to love to read stuff on here..now its kinda the same thing..
-
dani123 JuniorI agree, I find fanfics pathetic.
-
i think fanfics are fine, but overused. i do a fanfic once in a while, a short story, but i mainly do unfinished books. im working on one with my friend, and another one by myself currently.

So there once was a land called Kzaaghenar,
in which there dwelt a tritanope named Naaghenar.... -

Now it's my turn to be angry
I'm trying not to be rude, but I haven't seen a drop of decent poetry on this goddamn forum for a long time. The only person I remember being a poet that shined above "I hurt, I cry, I pain, I cut, tears and f---ing blood." and other disgustingly cliche subjects was Hephy, who I think is a f---ing amazing writer despite what she herself thinks.
I left the Lit forum a long time ago because I was just so sick of all the cliche drivel being spewed, so if something fresh and new has actually arrived that I haven't noticed, I apologize, cause the way it was heading before, I sure as hell am not going to risk being disgusted once more. -
POINT BEING
GET CREATIVE
STOP WITH THE CLICHES
USE IRONY, HYPERBOLE, METAPHOR, ALLUSION, CACOPHONY, ASSONANCE
I WANT TO SEE YOU SPEW YOUR SOULS OUT IN AN EXPLOSIVE COCKTAIL OF PASSION AND LIFE
I WANT TO SEE YOU CRACK OPEN YOUR INNER SASS AND WRITE LIKE YOU'VE NEVER WRITTEN BEFORE
I WANT YOU
TO BE
ALIVE
AND PLAY WITH YOUR WORDS GENTLY
HARSHLY
AND MOLD THEM INTO WHATEVER THE f---'S FLOATING IN YOUR MINDS ALL THE WHILE CARESSING THEM LIKE A MOTHER WOULD
SO PLEASE
FOR THE LOVE OF POETRY
Make your words last and stop with the cliches. -
I do have original writings, but I don't post them on the internet because I want to protect them from thieves. When I have some sort of copyright on them, then I will happily share them and publish them. I'd be flattered if one day it brought people happiness and stimulation enough to write their own takes on it. Fanfiction and the like is simply an escape for me, to practice writing skills and have fun with my friends with something we both like and enjoy.
I don't believe there's anything wrong with fanfiction, it's called fanfiction for a reason; an escape for fans to have fun and be with their friends. Sure, it's not original writing, but not everyone wants to be a professional writer. Some people look to writing as a source of enjoyment. It helps them build their own worlds. Who cares? -
TrainerGrey NewbieMy writings are too personal, on topics that mean too much to me. I'd never post anything that I couldn't handle the criticism of.
-
TrainerGrey NewbieI just don't think I'm comfortable yet. Maybe someday.
