Magnitude 7.4, lasted for around 30 seconds. Epicenter was off the coast of Guatemala. The quake was strong enough to have been felt from southern Mexico, all the way down to Costa Rica.
There are 48 reported to have died in Guatemala, and hundreds more are injured due to cement and glass flying out and hitting the people. There are many more said to be under the debris.
The damage so far is immense. There aren't any damages in Mexico, El Salvador, or Costa Rica because those countries' major buildings were more constructed to withstand the earthquakes like that. However, since Guatemala is never prepared for anything like this, their buildings easily collapsed and it's causing serious damage. Very important roads in the country are cut off due to the damage.
Yes, I know I'm really unfair to Guatemalans sometimes. But this is just really depressing and I'm wishing the best to the country in this crisis. -

I am Hoping the best for them all.
My sister moved to Guatemala this September. She was in the middle of the earthquake. She was in a basement store when it started and had to run as fast as she could back to the middle of the street. It scarred the s--- out of Her and us but she is okay. I just feel imensise sadness for all of the others who were not as lucky. -
May god give the required strength to move on for all the people who lost their loved ones.

Well since this thread is up might as well give a useless tidbit of information.
Guatemala has been receiving a lot of help from fellow neighboring country, Mexico. One of the things I found the sweetest that they are doing to help is that they are forming groups with Guatemalan children so that the Mexicans can play with them (the younger ones) and continue giving them daily lessons that would follow their school's lesson plan (mainly the older ones) so that it'll give them something to keep their minds off of the catastrophe. -
