Thread Topic: Introduction to Locking/Deleting Threads
-
Alright, so I know that early this morning (6/24/2014 at 02:06:41 A.M. GTQ Time) I told you guys that moderators should get a chance to have the ability to lock threads. I didn't get into detail, though, so here's how it would work.
I want you to take a look of a screenshot of another forum's last page in their offtopic forum. Read the titles and imagine what could be inside of that thread.
Most of them seem to have decent thread names, right? And inside they fit what needs to be in there. So why do they have a little lock on the side of the thread?
Locking and Unlocking Old Threads
The main idea for this "category" is that a thread left unnoticed for over 30 days will lock on its own, no moderator help needed. A lock sign will appear on the thread, showing other users that they can't post there.
The idea that flows right into that is that that moderators can unlock those threads if needed. (Such as you take a leave and your personal chatting thread is locked. We should have the ability to unlock those "old" threads.)
Locking and Unlocking Other Threads
-If the goings get tough and the arguments are worse than what they should be, moderators should have a chance to lock argument threads.
-If someone wants a thread locked, moderators should have a chance to lock those threads.
Here's what it would look like on the GTQ Forums!
A small (smaller than shown) lock icon would be next to the locked thread, showing users that they no longer can post in that thread. However, this shouldn't mean that moderators can lock as they please, so here's the next step: The moderator wanting to lock a thread has to prompted to explain why he/she is locking a thread before it is locked. The explanation should be posted on that thread so everyone else can see that moderator's reasoning. That way, if a moderator locks something that people/another moderator disagree with, they can ask for the lock to be taken down. What would an unlocked thread look like? Good question! Take a look!
Fake story: Let's say that Moderator A found Saretheamaze's thread to be inappropriate. Moderator A would click on the thread, scroll down to the bottom of the post area where "Lock this thread" is showing. Moderator A will click that, enter the reason for locking the thread, and the thread will be locked. Moderator B comes along and sees the unfair doing. Moderator B will have the chance to unlock the thread and make everything right again.
Deleting a Thread
Lots of you want moderators to be able to delete spam threads. So let's introduce my idea for this here!
I think that moderators should be able to delete spam threads. This way, it won't be taking up so much space, and if the locking thread idea doesn't work, we can have a fool proof way to delete it once and for all. (However, there should be a thread or something that shows proof that the thread existed and that shows who deleted it. However, that's really hard for me to come up with an idea on how that would work, so we can stop here.) It should take more than one moderator to delete a thread. That way, one isn't abusing the power and needs others to agree first.
That just about ends my little thing, so now you guys have a chance to post your concerns about this or likes. Thanks for reading to the end, I know this was really boring.

That sounds good.
-
It does. As far as how many should agree to delete a thread, it needs to be at least three.
-
I agree.
-
Agreed.
-
aye. GOod idea.
-
Oh god.
-
Thank you to everyone who liked this/agreed.
What's the "oh god" for? .w. -
Don't like, to much mod power.
-
If you don't want a moderator (which, by the way, are here to get rid of spam and other things) to be able to do this, then who? Normal users would spam up the place with this. Besides, moderators are supposed to be (slightly) above normal users. I don't see the problem.
-
Nobody will.
-
I see. Well, you have your opinion, I have mine. I'll leave it at that.
-
I like the idea.
-
The only problem I have with it the automatic locking in other boards other than the Lounge. Maybe, the locking is disabled on some slow-moving boards?
-
That sounds like a good idea. I agree.
