fizzy0918 NewbiePeople have been giving me a really hard time saying the riding isn't a sport! It completely annoys me!! It's definately exercise and I will be competing this Spring soooo..... yeah! It's a sport!
-
Well in my definition of a sport horse back riding is not a sport. It is an activity. But that's just my opinion. I don't consider a lot of "sports" sports.
-
It is a sport! No questions! Cheer leading also is :D
-
Cheer leading is a sport. Its just like gymnastics and dancing.
You just basically put them together and you have cheer leading.
Horse back riding? I think its an activity. -
fizzy0918 NewbieSorry if I was being annoying... Well if it's not a sport then it's a pretty hardcore activity. Try trusting risking your life for a sport. Watch this video:

fizzy0918 NewbieIf you watched it I hope you realized you have never done any of those things. I think it's lot better than chasing a ball around and trying to get in in a net or whatever. Sorry. But that's how it is.
-
fizzy0918 NewbieExactly my point. That's how I feel about riding.
-
Dancing is not an activity. Trust me. It's really difficult if you don't know what you're doing and I hurt my ankle in it, so it hurts everytime when I jump, and put to my pressure on it. It feels like a lightning bolt zapped this one tiny part in my ankle. And I do a lot of jumping for Irish dancing.
Now, horse ridding, I think it's a sport for the horse, but for the person? No, not really.
This "Chasing a ball around" SPORT that your referring to is a sport called soccer (or futbol). It is a sport and is a lot trickier than you think. The people that you've seen have just practiced it a while and make it look easy. But if you go out there and try to keep up with them, you'll find out that it isn't as easy as it looks, and you'll know how your horse probably feels. -
fizzy0918 NewbieIf you watched the video(which you probably didn't) one of the things people say are " It takes no skill" or " All you do is sit there and let the horse do the work" that's so untrue. Horse and rider work as a team. I am sore after riding just like anyone else would be after their sport. I said what I did so you would know what it feels like. I would like to see you be airborne on a 1400 pound animal with a mind of it's own. I'd like to see you come to a complete stop from a gallop in less than 2 seconds. I am an equestrian and I'm proud of it. I totally agree with you that dancing, cheerleading, and gymnastics are sports. Soccer, football, etc. Are all sports also. Please, believe me when I say riding takes skill and is not something to do in your free time
-
fizzy0918 NewbieAlso you have to be fit to ride! You have to have muscles just like any other sport. With using your legs to make you horse go, or standing in the saddle so you don't fall when your jumping? You can't be weak! It's just like any other sport. You have to be fit to do it! Plus it's in the Olympics. Why would it be in the Olympics if it wasn't a sport?!
