"me? I'd wish to go home. Being in this stupid box as long as I have makes anyone homesick. I miss my brother and I miss my dog and I miss my girlfriend. I can't go home though, I'm stuck in this stupid box." Alexander said, rattling the box once more with a kick. He looked up the the sky. He didn't remember how blue it was. He almost blinded himself with the sun. He frowned.
-
"you have a dog?" Finn said, excited. they loved animals. but then he checked himself. "its been over 20 years, you don't think... everyone has moved on?" he didn't want to bring up the dog or the fact it was probably dead. they were in awe of Alexander, eager to learn more.
-
"I had a dog. I don't think they moved on, especially not the person I really want to see. They couldn't have. Out of all the people in this wretched evil world, they were the only people who cared about a criminal as evil and infamous as I. I want them to know I never abandoned them. I want them to know I never stopped thinking about them. Maybe it's stupid to a kid like you but real criminals like me want to protect people too." Alexander said. He started laughing. "Oh geez that's corny. If I ever talk stupid like that again shake that little prison of mine like a goldfish bag. That's sure to shut me up." Alexander remarked
-
he looked at him with wide eyes, mesmerized, he said. "that must feel nice, looking out for people and having people look out for you. I've been alone since I was small.. smaller, I mean. but even when I had my family, it wasn't very great. they only cared about who could steal enough for dinner." they touched their face, deep in thought. "I always wanted to help all these people I see, but I cant."
-
"and that's why you're really not cut out for all this stealing. Geez. The more I think about it the more irritated I get. You're just a kid. Someone ought to stick up for ya. You're more of a tailor, or a gardener. You're the kinda kid I'd expect to see decorating some mansion with vases not riskin year hide to take scraps from these dusty old streets." Alexander said, furrowing his brow. The more this kid talked to him the more he reminded him of Jack. It had been over twenty years and he still remembered how fragile that boy had been.
-
"I've only lasted this long because I'm quick, and good at escaping. sometimes." Finn looked at their feet "i'm mostly fine trying to help myself, other people need the help more then I do."
-
"you deserve help. You're just a kid. Why are you worrying about all of them. Before you put the weight of the world on your shoulders make sure you're sturdy enough to handle your own weight. Stop worrying already and wish for some food. I can practically see your skeleton." Alexander said, flicking Finn in the forehead. He remembered saying those words more than once back home.
-
"alright, i wish for some food" Finn said, sitting down.
-
"perfect. Let's see." Alexander said. He imagined succulent meals he saw in mansions larger than most could imagine. Plates filled with honeyed hams and breads started to appear. Bowls with a strong smelling gravy, pitches filled with wines and milk alike, cheeses that each appeared richer than the last, shiny bowls of soup and plates covered in cookies. Soon enough the alley they sat in looked like the feast table of a king. "This is how kids like you should be fed. I recommend starting with the cheesy soup. It's gentler on the stomach. I might have went overboard." Alexander said as he looked out over the spread. "Eh, you'll finish it. You're a growing boy." Alexander reasoned
-
"oh wow, I think this is more than I can eat." he picked up the cheesy soup, figuring that if they couldn't finish it all he would just give it to people who needed it more, after he finished the cheese soup, they didn't feel hungry but they took one look at Alexander and decided to keep eating until he was more then full "what is this feeling? its weird, I don't like it. I feel like the contents of my body are about to explode." he let out a groan.
-
"you just ate a bit too much. It's kind of funny. Jack did the same. And that other kid did too... Eh, it don't matter. Shrimps like you gotta eat that much every once in awhile so you can grow up as strong as scumbags like me do. You at least deserve a chance against us jerks." Alexander said before giving a hardy laugh. He looked out over the food then waved his hands over it. In an instant it seemed to disappear. "I'll store it away for now. Man, I wish I could eat like that again." Alexander remarked before being struck with pain "ouch!" He yelped as he doubled over. He'd forgotten he wasn't supposed to say things as silly as I wish anymore.
-
"i don't think your that bad, for being a death lord and all." they said as Alexander whisked the food away. he got up, startled when they heard an abrupt yelp. "are you okay?"
-
"said somethin stupid. This dumb curse doesn't like it much whenever I wish for anything. That old hag didn't want me usin' this ability for anything but granting others wishes. I'm fine. As for that death lord comment you just haven't heard of my exploits. Plus I'm nicer to kids like you. If you were older and meaner it'd be different. As it stands... Aw forget it. You don't need to know about all that." Alexander said, trailing off in thought. He stared off into the distance.
-
finn was wide eyed, watching him intently. "helping other people like that sounds awesome." they grinned "well, at least to me." he shut up before they could start rambling on and asking questions and learning things that would probably scare him. "I kind of wish I could do that."
-
"you don't want that kinda thing kid. What I do is miserable. I only grant these wishes cause I have to. I also don't get to eat for decades at a time, I sit in a box alone on all encompassing silence until someone cleans this stupid box, then I jump out and do whatever they say until they either die or lose me like an idiot." Alexander said. He looked back to them. "However, I gotta grant your wishes somehow... Let's see, here." Alexander said. He snapped three times and then Finn's arm started to glow. "You can grant one wish for someone else. All you gotta do is snap those fingers." Alexander recounted
