George jumped up, swearing under his breath as he scrambled under the bed. “Clay! Open this door-“
-
“Sorry, coming!” Clay called back, waiting to make sure George was under the bed before walking over to the door. He exhaled shakily, opening the door. “Hey, what- what’s up?”
-
“I dunno, you tell me,” She said, pushing past him. “What have you been doing?”
-
“Sorry, I was really, really tired- Just, came back here to take a nap,” Clay said with an awkward chuckle, turning to watch his mom. “Were you texting me or something?”
-
“No! I just,” She said, starting to turn things over on his dresser. “I just- I feel like you’re lying to me, y’know? You lied to me about being gay, and apparently who you’re dating, so how could I really trust you?”
-
“Wh- What do you mean? I- I told you, I was dating someone at- at work,” Clay said, a hint of panic on his face. “And- Why are you going through my things??”
-
“Well, Clay, your manager told me you definitely weren’t dating a guy at your work, specifically because there weren’t any guys besides yourself working there,” She said, opening a drawer.
-
“W- Well, he- he quit a while back, s-so that’s why-“ Clay said, a bit nervously, moving over to the bed and sitting down. He picked up his phone, checking for messages from Sam. He sighed, seeing the missed messages from her and putting his phone down.
-
“Why are you so nervous about that? I already know,” She said angrily, shutting the drawer and opening the one below.
-
“Well- Why is it any of your business who I’m dating, though?” Clay asked, furrowing his brows. “And what do you think I'm hiding? Drugs? Vapes??”
-
“Maybe, who knows?” She said, shutting the drawer once she had shifted through it. “You’re obviously dishonest.
-
“I’m- I’m not! I promise, Mom!” Clay said, a nervous look on his face. “Please, Mom, stop going through my s----“
-
“Why should I stop?” The queen said, turning to glare at Clay. “If you have nothing to hide, why does it matter?”
-
“Because it’s an invasion of my f---ing privacy-“ Clay retorted, glaring back at his mom. “What, do you go through Sam’s s---? Or do you just not trust me??”
-
“Well, I mean, I haven’t found out any big things that Sam’s hiding from me, so no,” She said, crossing her arms.
