"Wonder what everyone else will think, the king marrying a cripple-" "Pa, that's rude," Casimir's uncle said in a hushed voice, furrowing his brows. Georgie immediately sunk a little lower in their chair, exhaling shakily.
-
Casimir sighed, kissing the back of Georgie’s hand when he noticed the look on their face. ‘Don’t call them that.’
-
"Well, she's missin' an arm, so what do you call her??" Casimir's grandfather spoke, glaring at Georgie. "What, were you born like that or somethin'?" "Pa, cut it out," Casimir's uncle spoke in a low voice, sighing softly.
-
Casimir exhaled sharply. ‘It was in the news, right? They got stabbed by Indigo. The same girl you got mad at me for breaking up with.’
-
"That's real?" Casimir's grandfather scoffer, shaking his head. "Here I thought someone got their facts wrong and this one was the murderer-" Georgie froze, their breathing stopping for a moment before quickening.
-
‘Yeah, it’s real,’ Casimir snapped. ‘What would make you think otherwise?’
-
"Well, just look at her, she's not royalty- for God's sake, she's not even dressed properly, no dress, no makeup-" Casimir's father spoke, making Georgie panic even further.
-
‘They can dress how they want. It’s not your decision, is it?’ Casimir snapped. ‘As far as I know it’s not against any laws. And you’re not the king, are you?’
-
Casimir's grandfather rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. "You know people like her only want money, don't actually care about you-" "That's- that's not true, I-I do care about Casimir," Georgie spoke shakily, their hand beginning to shake.
-
Casimir held their hand tightly. ‘I know they care about me. It’s a fact.’
-
"Sure they do," Casimir's grandfather muttered, rolling his eyes again. Georgie let out a shaky breath and stood, letting go of Casimir's hand. "I'll- I'll be right b-back-" They spoke, stepping away from their chair and rushing out of the dining room, holding back tears.
-
Casimir’s face fell as they left. He glared at his grandfather stood up. ‘I don’t know why you’re all so horrible to Georgie.’
The cousins and siblings stayed quietly. The oldest cousin spoke up. ‘For the record, I don’t-‘
‘Shut up, James,’ his grandmother snapped.
‘Maybe it’s because the fiancé you’ve chosen has two limbs missing and is poor!’ Casimir’s father snapped.
‘That doesn’t mean they deserve your rudeness!’ -
"Maybe you'll think twice about the girl you choose to marry, and just maybe you'll make us proud," Casimir's grandfather said curtly, glaring at the king. Georgie soon found himself in the garden by the large willow in the middle, curled up in a ball on the ground and quietly sobbing into his arms.
-
‘I don’t care about making you proud if it means spending the rest of my life with someone I don’t love!’ Casimir shouted.
‘Honey, you can’t marry a peasant-‘ his mother said.
‘Don’t call them that,’ Casimir snapped. He glared at his father and stormed out of the dining room, slamming the doors behind him. -
Georgie cried softly into their arms, leaning back against the tree. Maybe they're right, maybe- maybe I shouldn't be with Cassie- maybe he should've ended up with Indigo...
