“Yes, you- you did,” Briar spoke slowly, trying to pick his words carefully, “but guess what, baby? You’re human. We’re all human! We make mistakes. In my time as king- holy f---, I have made so many mistakes. But I promise, I do not think you’re a failure, okay? And you’re not the only one who’s felt this way- Hell, I’ve thought I was a failure my entire f---ing life, with my father always telling me I’m a disappointment…” He exhaled softly, hugging Lawrence close.
-
Lawrence let out a choked sob, burying his face in Briar's chest. He really shouldn't be crying, since it was years ago, but the thoughts of his kingdom had been weighing down on him since he'd escaped. He couldn't find the right words. 'B-B-But one l-little mistake cost me e-everything,' he whimpered. 'I-If only I hadn't been so fu-f---ing stupid-'
-
“Hun, you’re not stupid, I promise,” Briar said as he shook his head, holding Lawrence close. “Was it stupid for you to fall in love with me? No, it wasn’t- I know it can feel like, every single thing you do is wrong, but- p-please don’t think that, b-baby,” he spoke, tearing up.
-
'Yes, it was!' Lawrence exclaimed. He pulled away from Briar slightly so he could look at him. 'It was one of the stupidest things I've ever done! I-I love you, so f---ing much, but if I didn't, things wouldn't be so f---ing messed up.' Tears streaked down his face, and he furiously wiped them away.
-
“I don’t think it was a stupid mistake,” Briar spoke, moving his hands to cup Lawrence’s cheeks and wipe his tears. “The only stupid mistake you made was not taking me with you when you escaped from the dungeon~” He teased, kissing his lips. “But in all seriousness, if we never met and fell in love- Honestly? I genuinely do not think I’d be here,” he murmured, rubbing his cheek with his thumb.
-
Lawrence leaned into his touch, burying his face in his hands. 'If we never met, you'd hate me,' he said, voice quivering. 'A-And rightfully so! If we never met, I would've died, and your father would've told you what really happened to your mother, and you'd have a better boyfriend, maybe even a husband, and you'd be happy.'
-
“I don’t think I’d be happily married to my husband if I never met you,” Briar spoke, holding Lawrence close and rubbing his back. “Honestly, I’d be stuck as king, forced into a relationship with a woman I don’t love, or- or dead.” He stayed quiet for a moment, exhaling shakily. “I- I was in such a bad place, mentally, when I met you, but- But you gave me hope, that my life could be better- and when you left, I- I was relieved, but- I missed you so much, I- I couldn’t stand to not be with you, so I-“ He lowered his face and buried it in Lawrence’s chest, letting out a shaky sob.
-
Lawrence rested his head on top of Briar's, breathing in his scent. He exhaled shakily, trying to stay strong for his boyfriend, and didn't respond for a few moments. 'I don't deserve you,' he mumbled, closing his eyes.
-
“Honey, that’s not true,” Briar spoke softly, gripping onto Lawrence’s shirt as he hugged him close. “Please, please don’t ever think that you don’t deserve me- Because you do! You really do, okay?”
-
Lawrence buried his face in Briar’s hair, nodding slightly. ‘O-Okay,’ he mumbled.
-
Briar hugged Lawrence close, gripping his shirt in his hands. “I love you s-so f---ing much, baby,” he murmured, exhaling shakily.
-
‘Love you too,’ Lawrence mumbled.
-
Briar exhaled shakily, trying not to cry and stay strong for his boyfriend. He lifted his head a little, hugging Lawrence close.
-
Lawrence sighed softly. He held Briar close and fell into a light sleep.
-
Briar hummed softly as he held Lawrence close, gently kissing the top of his head. He moved to lay down with his boyfriend in his arms, rubbing his back and soon falling asleep, his mind reeling with ideas of what he really wanted with his life.
