Lawrence's eyes snapped open. His gaze fell on Briar and he sighed. 'What now?' he grumbled, sitting up straight. He rubbed his bandaged arm, flinching at the pain. 'I thought I told you not to come back.'
-
“I have questions for you,” Briar said with a glare, crossing his arms. “First of all, what exactly did you do to piss off my father so much, and make him want to execute you? I mean, I’m sure he didn’t take very kindly to the whole “war thing”, but you must’ve done something.”
-
Lawrence glared. 'If he didn't wish to tell you, why should I?' he snapped. 'That is none of your concern.' He wasn't about to spill all his secrets to a stranger, nevertheless the Prince of Atlea. He didn't want to scare away the only person who'd be willing to steal food and water for him.
-
“Please, Lawrence,” Briar spoke, exhaling softly. “I want to help you, but if I do not learn of what happened, how am I supposed to get you out of this? If it is the fact you think anything that you did might scare me off, I can assure you, it will not.”
-
Lawrence shook his head. 'It is none of your concern,' he said firmly, sadness almost visible in his eyes. He looked down, glaring at the floor. 'Any other questions, or are you here to nag me?'
-
Briar stood there, trying to remember all the questions he had for the King, but they seemed to have slipped his mind. “No, I guess I do not,” he murmured, exhaling. “Sorry for wasting your time, like I always do.” He watched the man for another moment before sighing softly, turning and walking off.
-
Lawrence watched him leave, noticing how upset the prince seemed. He wanted to stop him and apologize, and even though he had no dignity left, he didn't. He looked down, sighing, and reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small, tattered notebook.
-
Briar exited the dungeon and slipped past the guards, exhaling softly. Why did I think I could help him? He thought with a sigh, rubbing his temples. Because you are an empath and a good person, despite how your father is. You tried the right thing, you can’t give up yet. He paused in his spot for a moment, a small smile on his face. “I can’t give up yet,” he spoke to himself, nodding as he walked back to his room. “And I am going to figure out how to save him!”

(alrighty, sounds good)
Lawrence had barely slept the night before. He'd used his coat as blanket, but it didn't work to shield him from the harsh cold of the dungeon. The light pouring from his small window woke him up. He rubbed his eyes groggily and realized how hungry he was, but tried to ignore it as he sat up straight. He blinked a couple times and reached for his glasses in his shirt pocket, but remember they were broken, and sighed. -
Briar slipped back down into the dungeon without any guards noticing, which wasn’t very hard considering the ones that were stationed are usually rather oblivious and off in their own world. Or asleep by the door. He pulled out the food he had grabbed from the kitchen and walked over to Lawrence’s cell, peeking in. “Ah, good morning, Lawrence~“ He said with a smile, pulling out the key he’d kept from yesterday and unlocking the door. “I hope you did not freeze to death last night, I had remembered how cold it can get down there, and by the time I did, I could not come back down and bring you a blanket or something to keep you warm-“
-
Lawrence looked up at him, a little surprised by his thoughtfulness. 'Er, thank you,' he said quietly, leaning against the wall. 'It's really okay, I managed. I'm used to the cold by now.' He studied Briar's face for a moment, before realizing he was staring and looked at the food. 'You really did not have to get me something to eat. You being down here is risky enough.'
-
“Does it look like I give a s--- if I get caught?” Briar said bluntly, raising an eyebrow. He closed the door and walked over to Lawrence, handing him the food. “Now eat, please. I’d feel bad if you did not,” he said with a soft smile, pocketing the key back into his satchel.
-
'You should give a s---,' Lawrence mumbled, taking the food. He looked up at Briar, sighing, then back at the food and took a bite. 'I appreciate this. But I don't want you to keep risking your life just to get me a meal.'
