Lawrence raised an eyebrow, somewhat taken aback by the other man's rambling. Once the prince had finished speaking, Lawrence spoke up. 'I know your name, Prince Briar Campbell,' he said, voice monotone. His expression was unreadable. 'I'm as well as I could be, in a smelly cell with infected cuts.' His voice had a hint of sarcasm. 'What do you want? Money? I have no weapons on me.'
-
“No, I- I wanted to make sure you were okay,” Briar spoke with a bit of defiance, crossing his arms. “I mean, I watched you get dragged off into a cell after being told you’re going to get executed. I’m quite sure that would shake a person, considering how dreadfully unfair this whole situation seems.”
-
Lawrence narrowed his eyes at Briar. He found it extremely unlikely that the King of Atlea's son would remotely care about him. After a moment of thought, he sighed. 'If you want to help, go get me some food and bandages. If not, please leave me to wallow myself in misery and self-pity,' he said.
-
Briar inhaled and smiled, nodding quickly. “Yes, I- I can do that for you~” He said with a quiet chuckle, backing up a little. “I shall be right back with some bandages and food!” He turned and quickly walked off, smiling to himself as he exited the dungeon in search for the items.
-
Lawrence watched him walk away, sighing softly. He cuddled his legs to his chest and leaned against the wall, sighing softly. He ran his fingers through his knotted hair, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out his glasses, which were cracked and one of the arms was snapped.
-
Briar soon came back with a satchel, holding some food on a plate and a mug of water. “I’m back, Lawrence,” the ravenette spoke as they walked over to the cell, setting down the tray for a moment. They opened up the satchel and pulled out the bandages, along with a key on a large ring. They slid the key into the hole of the cell door, pushing it open and grabbing the food. “Managed to swipe the key on the way back,” he said with a chuckle, grabbing the mug and walking over to Lawrence.
-
Lawrence looked up at him as he came back. He pulled off his bloody, torn jacket and set it on the ground and tucked the broken glasses in his shirt pocket. 'Thank you,' he said, a little surprised, but with a small, grateful smile. 'I, er, didn't think you'd actually do it,' he admitted with a short chuckled.
-
“Well, why wouldn’t I?” Briar asked, frowning a little with confusion. “I mean, you’re hurt and you’re in a terrible situation- which my father caused, so I- I feel bad, y’know,” he murmured, crouching down and setting the food beside Lawrence.
-
Lawrence smiled weakly, taking the mug of water. His throat was sore and his voice raspy from the battle, so he took a large swig. 'Thank you,' he repeated, this time quieter. He crossed his legs, dipping his fingers in the water and rubbing the water droplets over his face, trying to clean the muck and blood. 'I wish I could repay you for your kindness.'
-
“There’s no need, really,” Briar said with a gentle smile, smile, moving to sit up in his knees.
(ahh sk sorry, i’m exhaused and braindead :’)
literally abt to pass out xD
better replies to tomorrow, i swear :’)) -
(lmao you're all good xD)
Lawrence took a bite of the food, taking a moment before responding again. He grabbed the rolled of bandages and pulled up his pant leg. There were a couple scabbed-over cuts on his calf. 'Why are you helping me?' he asked, glancing up at Briar, then back down at his calf as he wrapped the bandage around his leg. -
“Well-“ Briar paused, watching Lawrence for a moment. “Well, I suppose I could just, let an innocent man rot away in my father’s cell without a care in the world, but I’m not an idiot. I’m not blissfully unaware to some of the things that happen around me.” He paused again, looking down at his hands. “Plus, you’re like me- Well, I mean, you’re a king and I’m just- just still a prince, but we are in kind of the same boat, right?
-
Lawrence’s brows furrowed. He didn’t speak for a moment and took a sip of water, then said quietly, ‘How are we in the same boat?’ He found that statement to be quite annoying. He was going to be sitting in a cell, dreading his execution, and Briar was living in luxury as a prince.
-
“I- Well, I guess at this very moment, we’re not in the- the same boat,” Briar replied, turning red with embarrassment. Of course we’re not in the same boat. He’s literally being help captive, by my father, and I’m just, living my best life over here. He’s a king, for goodness sake! And all I am is a lousy prince… “Disregarding that-“ He added, praying he could move on and Lawrence could forget the mis-use of his words, “I do want to help you, because this isn’t right. My father locking you down here, it’s not- it doesn’t seem right. So, I intend on busting you out of here.”
-
Lawrence raised an eyebrow, listening to his ramblings curiously. ‘Busting me out, hm? Well, the only problem with that is being fugitives for the rest of our lives and both being executed,’ he said bluntly. He grabbed a piece of his food and took a bite from it, then continued to speak. ‘I appreciate you helping me, Prince, but I must navigate this on my own. You’re already taking a risk by giving me these things, I don’t want you to be in more trouble.’
