“I risk my life every time I go to speak with my father, so that’s nothing new,” Briar muttered with an eye roll, sitting down on the floor in front of Lawrence. “And you’re welcome~“

Lawrence rolled his eyes. 'Your father can't be that bad to you,' he mumbled, taking a bite from his food. 'I kill two of his men and he wages war on me and my kingdom.'

“All I had to do was f---ing exist near him and he pretty much wants me dead,” Briar said with a sad chuckle, running a hand through his hair. “But that does not matter, what matters is- I come up with a plan to save you.”

'What about your mother?' Lawrence asked, glancing up at Briar. 'Does she not care for you?' He didn't respond to the last part. He didn't want to encourage the prince coming up with an escape for him.

“She uhm, she’s no longer with us,” Briar murmured softly, hugging his legs to his chest. “She died a few years ago, just before my eighteenth birthday. She uhm, she was very ill, so it- it was inevitable, I suppose…”

Lawrence was quiet for a moment. 'What was her name?' he asked softly. He figured it was a touchy subject, since he knew what it was like to be grieving someone close.

“Eloise,” Briar replied quietly, resting his head on his knees. “She was the sweetest person you would ever meet, which is surprising, considering who she married.” He chuckled softly, smiling as he remember her face. Her laugh, her smile, her soft hands holding his. He exhaled softly, bringing his hands together and scratching the back of his left hand.

'Eloise Campbell,' Lawrence said quietly. He looked down at the ground, taking another bite of his food, oddly silent.
(I was thinking maybe Lawrence had killed someone close to Alador, which is why the guy wanted him executed? maybe his mum would make sense and she died to a stab wound or bullet wound but Briar wasn't told that or sum? idk lmao) -

“She was the only one who truly cared about me,” Briar spoke, a frown returning to his face. “She looked after me, paid me the attention I never got from my father- B-But enough about me!” He chuckled awkwardly and lifted his head, forcefully pulling his hands apart. “What uhm, what about you? What’s your family like, if you don’t mind me asking??” -

That made Lawrence feel extremely bad, and it showed on his face. He figured it was best that he didn't tell Briar the real reason Eloise Campbell had died. 'Er, I don't really see them. My brother died a few years ago in war. He was, I think 25 at the time. My parents... I don't have the best relationship with them.' He didn't offer any more, and spoke quietly. -
“I get that,” Briar replied with a nod, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t have any siblings, though. Sometimes I do wish I did, so I could have someone to, y’know, hang out with from time to time?” He chuckled, stretching out his legs and crossing them.

'I suppose so. He was a great king,' Lawrence said quietly, breaking off a piece of food, but all of a sudden wasn't all that hungry. He couldn't push the thought of Eloise out of his mind, and rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands to try and push it out of his head.

“Are you alright? You should eat, I’m sure you’re starving,” Briar spoke, watching Lawrence for a moment. “And any food from me is most likely the only good substance you may get down here, so I would eat up.”

Lawrence gave a weak smile. 'If you insist,' he said, taking another bite. 'I don't know how I can repay your kindness.'

Briar blushed a little, chuckling softly. “There’s really no need, it is just what I do~” He replied with a smile, resting his hands in his lap. “Although, I mean- If you really want to repay my kindness, you could always tell me what you did to piss off my father~” He teased, smirking playfully at the man sat in front of him.
