Clay stirred awake after a while, having fallen asleep with George in bed. He yawned softly, sitting up. He sniffed the air for a moment, smelling something cooking in the kitchen. He hummed softly and let go of George. climbing out of bed. I’ll let him rest a bit longer, then wake him up, he thought, watching him for a moment before leaving the room. -
George curled up a little more, grabbing a pillow and moving his face into it. “Oh, hello,” Clay’s mom said as Clay came into the kitchen, flipping some sausage on a pan. “What have you been up to?”
-
“Uh, not much- George and I watched a movie, then took a nap, has a bit of a migraine,” Clay replied, running a hand through his hair. “You don’t have any medicine I can get for him, do you?”
-
“Aw, poor kid,” Clay’s mom said with a frown. “I might- let me finish these up and I’ll go check.”
-
“Yeah, I- I tried to offer him some Ibuprofen, but he said it probably wouldn’t help,” Clay said with a sigh, going and sitting down at the bar.
-
“Oo, must be pretty bad then, huh?” Clays mom said softly.
-
“Mhm,” Clay hummed in response, nodding. He exhaled softly, looking down at his hands. “Uhm, so- Y’know that girl I told you about? Jolie?”
-
“Yeah, what about her?” Clays mom asked, pausing for a second. “Oh, right, yeah. What happened?”
-
“She uhm, she stopped by earlier and-“ Clay exhaled shakily, hugging one leg to his chest. “She slapped George, and- and tried to touch me, but I think we scared her off, at- at least temporarily.”
-
“Oh- Clay, y’know that’s like… a crime? right?” Clay’s mom said softly. “Like, you can get a restraining order if she assaults you or someone else like that-“
-
“I know- I know,” Clay said, exhaling softly. “And I-“ He paused, deciding against telling his mother about his trips to see Jolie the past few weeks. “I probably should, I just- I don’t know, what if it doesn’t help? It’s not like she can’t ruin my life in other ways…”
-
“It couldn’t hurt, right?” Clays mom said softly, turning the stove to a lower heat. “I mean- she seems to really be hurting you. And these things, honey, these things aren’t okay for her to do.”
-
Clay nodded, sighing softly. “I’ll- I’ll think about it,” he said quietly, resting his head on his knee.
-
“Please do,” Clays mom said with a nod. “And let me know what conclusion to come to okay?”
