“Well, some of them are different notes, like half notes, whole notes, eight notes, forth notes- That kinda stuff,” Adrienne said, shrugging. “And I think I spaced them out a bit too much on accident-“
-
"what do the different notes even mean?" Octavia asked. She didn't know much about music. It was never one of her studies except for when her parents tried to convince her to do band. She stopped after looking at most of the instruments. The most she'd do is take music appreciation for an easy credit to put on her college application.
-
“They’re different beats, they show you how long you have to hold the beats out for and what the rhythm is,” Adrienne said, a small smile on their face. “I do a lot of the music writing for my band, which includes doing the sheet music. It’s quite fun, actually~”
-
"that is interesting. Music is far more complicated than I thought." Octavia observed.
-
“It’s definitely a lot, and you’ve got to know a lot of the music theory stuff to really understand it,” Adrienne said, drawing more music notes on the page in random patterns. “You don’t have to understand music theory and all that s--- to make music, though-“
-
"this is fascinating." Octavia said. She started drawing little instruments on her paper.
-
“I haven’t made a lot of music, recently. Had some writer’s block,” Adrienne said with a chuckle, turning their attention back to their work.
-
"possibly because of your mountain of work but it's important for you to keep your grades up." Octavia said. She wrote percentages. None went below 50.
-
“Pfft- No, it’s not that,” Adrienne said, chuckling softly. “I just- I dunno, I’ve not had much motivation, I guess.”
-
"I thought artist were motivated by everything. The blooming of flowers, the ripples in the water, the falling leaves, the delicate snowflakes drifting quietly to the ground. Those sorts of poetic moments lost on the normal people. The things people grow insensitive to overtime." Octavia said. She drew a snowflake on the page
-
“True, but even song writers get art block,” Adrienne said with a chuckle, running a hand through their hair. “I just- Haven’t found any motivation.”
-
"that's tough. I think it would be difficult to be creative but stuck with a lack of motivation." Octavia said. She drew a brain with a little person inside.
-
“Definitely,” Adrienne said with a chuckle, nodding. They went back to their work, putting their music back on and humming softly to it.
-
Octavia looked over some of Adrienne's work, correcting the small things they got wrong with a blue pencil.
-
Adrienne yawned softly, rubbing their face with their hands for a moment. “Ugh, why am I so tired…”
