Tristan stopped, standing by Damien’s side. “Why’d you stop- Wait, isn’t that-“ They subconsciously grabbed onto the man’s shirt, their hands beginning to shake in panic. “Isn’t that Lila? And- and who’s that with her??”
-
Damien looked at both Lila and Asmodeus with glaring eyes. "It'll be okay." He said to Tristan. Lila stood up and had the biggest smirk on her face. Asmodeus waved his cane in the air, in a sweeping motion. "Damien!" He said, his voice seeped with aggression. "And who is your lovely friend here?" He used the cane to point at Tristan. Lila and Asmodeus' looked like two cats ready to pounce on their prey.
Damien looked at both of them, his hands clenched together in fists. "Whoever is with me is none of your business." He seethed. "And both of you know as well as I do, there is nothing you can do here that will cause harm to either of us." Lila rolled her eyes. "And you think magic is all we can do?" She scoffed, and chuckled, glaring at Tristan as she spoke. -
Tristan froze under Lila’s glare, subconsciously moving closer to Damien and stepping behind him a little.
-
Lila reached her arm out, and lifted Tristan by their shirt while Damien stared, his eyes growing wide. "Put them down..." He growled, the temperature started to rise on his face. Even within the library, Lila showed super-human strength. "And if I don't, what's the worst that will happen? Another human gone off the earth?" Lila rolled her eyes. "I knew it the first time I laid eyes on you that you were soft, and you weren't built for this." She spat at Damien. Lila looked at Tristan, who appeared to be completely terrified, and tossed them to the side like a rag-doll.
Damien watched as Tristan fell into a book-shelf, and he made an attempt to run after them. Sapphire started barking aggressively and leapt at Lila, latching onto her arm. Lila let out the most god-awful screech, and tried to shake the dog off her arm. She felt the pain shoot arm her arm. Asmodeus leapt into action, his cane moving swiftly as he hit the dog off of Lila. -
Tristan screamed in panic as they were thrown across the room, groaning loudly in pain as they hit the bookshelf. They fell to the ground and tried to stand to their feet, tears in their eyes from the pain. “D-Damien,” they murmured, looking up and trying to find him.
-
Sapphire got up again, and latched onto Lila, ripping at her arm. She screamed in pain, furiously trying to back out of the library.
Damien ran over Tristan and tried to help them up. "Are you okay?" He said, worried. Tristan still had the ring, thank goodness; but making sure they were safe was the number one priority. He guided them over to a chair, and made them sit down. "Stay here." Damien said, running off toward Lila and Asmodeus again. -
“Wait, Damien-“ Tristan started but groaned in pain, dropping back into the seat. They wanted to help him, in any sort of way, but what could they do? They had no powers, no magic of sorts. They were just some worthless human who, quite literally, got easily tossed around.
-
Damien ran up to Lila and Asmodeus, his face contorted in anger. "HOW DARE YOU?!" He flew into Lila, flinging his fists haphazardly. He knew he probably wasn't doing any damage to her. Asmodeus grabbed Damien, and flung him outside the protective barrier of the Library. His body seemed to fly past the gargoyle statue, and land in a heap at the entrance of the cave. He took a breath, pain seeming to tip through his chest. His dog, lay in a heap at Lila's feet. He stood up, dirt streaking his face, as Lila and Asmodeus made their way outside the barrier of the Library.
-
“Damien! Are you okay?!” Tristan tried to call out, but their voice was so shaky with fear they could barely speak.
-
Damien looked past Lila and Asmodues, his eyes sparking in anger. His dog wasn't moving, and they had hurt Tristan. "I'm okay!" He shouted, his voice echoing around the entrance. Lila gritted her teeth, her arm was ripped to spreads from Damiens dog. "For now." She said, walking over to him, and placing her finger on his chest. "Mark my words, everyone around you will die. Including them, and their parents." Lila shot a glance at Tristan.
Damien grinded his teeth together. "If you harm anyone, I will kill you." He said, as Asmodeus just shook his head. "Kid, trust me. In the grand scheme of things, you are just a blip on the radar. You think any of this s--- matters?" He walked toward Damien with his cane in hand, and leaned toward him. "Well, it doesn't." As Asmodeus said that, him and Lila seemed to blip away, and Damien ran over to Sapphire, and picked her up. Her body, limp in his arms and he felt his heart shatter.
He had to keep it together though. If not for himself, for Tristan. He walked over to them, and his voice dropped almost to a whisper. "I'm sorry, I should have never asked you to do this with me." -
“No, I- I could’ve said no anytime, I wanted to help you,” Tristan spoke, trying to stand to their feet. “Please don’t say that, Damien-“ They groaned softly, leaning against his side.
-
Damien looked at Tristan, and nodded. His eyes red, and full of tears. "Regardless of where they go, we need to go back to the shack. I need to bury her." Damien said, as he held his dog. "Can I see the ring?" He asked softly. In the back of his mind he was worried about Tristan, but right now he just wanted to bury his dog. He would ask them once he finished burying his dog, how they were. "Just know," He started, his voice lighter than it seemed before. "I am grateful for your help."
-
“Of course, yeah,” Tristan said, exhaling shakily as they took off the ring and handed it to Damien. “I- I just wish I could’ve done more,” they murmured softly, not daring to look at the limp body of his dog. “I would’ve saved her if I could…”
-
He looked at Tristan and grabbed their hand. He walked quietly out of the library, and stood in front of the gargoyle statue. He thought about the shack, and how he wanted to be there. Before he knew it, Tristan and him were there standing in front of the door. He looked at Sapphire, finally acknowledging what Tristan said earlier. "It's not your fault. We did what we could, and that's enough." He walked down the steps with the dog in his arms, and placed her body gently on the ground. He went to go grab a shovel from behind the house.
-
Tristan exhaled softly, sneaking a glance at the limp body of the dog for a second. They squeezed their eyes shut and turned away, hugging their arms across their chest.
