Ernie raised his eyebrow at the stutter, but didn't say anything about it, figuring she just had a roommate or something.

Mahina lit another candle. 'So, do you feel well enough to get going, or do you need to rest? You can stay here if you like.'

Ernest thought about that for a moment. "Could I stay here, just for a bit?" He asked. It was either that or under a tree somewhere after all.

'Of course,' Machine said. 'As long as you need.'

Ernie smiled. "Thank you." He said gratefully. -

Mahina nodded with a smile, then blew out her match. -
Ernest drank the rest of his water, setting his glass down.

Mahina put the match in the bin and looked back at Ernest curiously.

Ernie noticed again. "What?" He asked, cocking his head to the side.

'Nothin',' Mahina said, looking away again.

Ernie rolled his eyes. "You really expect me to believe it's nothing? Come on, tell me."

'Why should I? You haven't told me why you were out this deep in the forest all alone. I've reason to be suspicious.'

Ernest thought about that. "Fair enough. But I wasn't here for anything affecting you, I promise."

Mahina pursed her lips, thinking. 'Fine, then,' she said.
