Jayd sighed. "I.... I don't know, honestly. Maybe?"

Chester gently massaged his back. ‘Maybe? Now I’m worried. Jayden, promise me it wasn’t anything terrible.’

Jayden sighed. "It was just a threat, Chester. It was nothing. It probably won't even happen, ok?"

Chester’s frown deepened. His form changed from a dog to a half-phoenix, and his wings wrapped around Jayden’s body protectively. ‘Did he threaten you?’

Jayd looked up at him, snuggling into him. "Maybe." He mumbled.

Chester grit his teeth, holding onto him tightly. ‘Maybe? What kind of threats?’

Jayden sighed. "Just... Little threats to motivate me into listening to him."

‘Little threats? Still threats!’ Chester said, pulling back slightly to look him in the eye. ‘Tell me what he said.’

Jayd avoided his gaze. "He told me not to tell you about taking the military base, because if I did, you could break the contract just as easily as we could break the treaty. He must've noticed I didn't like hearing that, because then he asked if going to war with you was 'what I wanted'. Which it obviously isn't."

It took a moment for Chester to register that. ‘He… he threatened to go to war with me?’ he said quietly, gripping Jayden tighter. He didn’t talk for a moment. ‘Love, I… that’s not okay.’

Jayden slowly nodded. "I know." He whispered.

Chester held him close, sighing softly. ‘I promise that’s not going to happen. I would never let that happen.’

You can't control that. Jayden gave a weak smile. "Ok."

Chester gently caressed his cheek, sighing quietly. ‘You feeling better now, love?’

"Yeah." Jayd snuggled into him, wrapping his arms around him.
