Jayden pursed his lips, thinking. He loosened his grip slightly. “Chester wait, think about this.” Those words felt weird out of his mouth. He was very hypocritical for saying that. “What if he decides to get revenge and tells them you’re a murderer?”
-
‘He has no proof,’ Chester said, squeezing his hand. ‘If the public won’t listen to you, they’ll listen to the good little king Chester Jackson. And if they don’t listen to me, there are multiple people in my castle willing to lie and deny it.’ He paused. ‘The only leverage he has on us is my watch. And… I’m willing to give that up if it makes you safer.’
-
Jayden wouldn’t admit it, but he definitely felt better hearing that. “But Chester, you said it yourself, the press hasn’t been on your side lately. Besides, I can’t ask that from you. It’s not fair to you.”
-
‘I don’t care, Jayden. I’m doing this by my own will. You’re not asking me to do anything,’ Chester said, pulling his hand away. ‘Either I win the fight, Astrid gets convicted, happy ever after, or it explodes in my face and Astrid fights back. I’m willing to take the chance. Beside, this letter won’t be from Chester Jackson.’
-
Jayden sighed. “Who’ll it be by?” He asked quietly before continuing. “Chester, I don’t want to take that chance. If you go to jail… If I lose you…” His words caught in his throat. He stared at the ground.
-
Chester stood up and wrapped his arms around Jayden, holding him close. ‘Hey, you’re not losing me. That’s a promise,’ he said softly, kissing the top of his head. ‘I’m not signing. It would be too much of a controversy for all of us if I did. It’ll be aimed at Astrid and Astrid only.’
-
Jayd wrapped his arms around Jayden tightly, closing his eyes. “Don’t promise things that are out of your control, Chester.” He mumbled. “Sounds good.”
-
Chester sighed, trying not to think about that. If he went to jail, Maeve would have to take over, and murder charges in his kingdom were very severe. Murdering one person on purpose was 5 years. Murdering two people and physically assaulting a prince twice… But it was an accident, so would the judges be lenient?
He kissed the top of his head. ‘Fine. But I promise I won’t let that happen.’ -
Jayden nodded. “Fine.” He mumbled. He looked up at Chester. He could tell he was thinking about very important and serious things, understandably. He kissed his cheek.
-
Chester smiled softly, before slowly letting go and sitting back down at Jayden’s desk. ‘Thank you.’
-
Jayd nodded. “But I have to proofread it first, deal?”
-
Chester nodded. ‘Of course.’ He picked up the quill and dipped it in the ink. ‘What’s the name of the most popular news agency here?’
-
“Uhhh….” Jayden checked the newspapers on his desk. “Torren and Sons Papers for the Public.” He shrugged.
-
‘Alrighty,’ Chester said, scribbling words on the paper. He tried hard to keep it neat, but his cursive writing was hard for even him to read sometimes.
-
Jayd looked at the handwriting, chuckling at the messiness of his handwriting.
