Jayden winced, positive that was the case. In his experience, people rarely truly loved royals. They just loved the thrill, money, and of course the elevation in status.
It took him a while before he realized Chester was waiting for an answer. "Just embarrassing younger you rambling about politics and status." He said. It was a half truth after all. -
Chester frowned. 'Alright, then,' he said, sure he hadn't rambled about such things before, but he did have a lot of journals. He sat back down and tried to focus on his work.
"She's absolutely beautiful, diary, I hope I can win her over. I spotted some men flirting with her at some point, but to my relief she didn't seem all that interested. I think I have a chance after all." That was were the entry ended. -
Jayden felt the same gut feeling he had before when he read the line about the girl being beautiful and again when he said he had a chance with her, only stronger and he could identify the feeling, even though it didn't make sense. He felt jealous, he knew that now.
But why on earth was he feeling jealous? -
Chester managed to focus on his work, and managed to read a few pages before he looked back up at Jayden. He frowned but said nothing.
-
Jayd realized he was frowning as he read, so he altered his expression into a smile as he looked at Chester. "What's wrong?"
-
'Nothing,' Chester said. 'You just look agitated.'
-
"Oh... I'm fine." Jayden said, smiling the fake smile he did whenever people asked what he was up to. "Never been better. What about you?"
-
'I'm fine,' Chester said, still a bit suspicious.
-
"Well that's good." Jayden smiled. "Can I bring this into my room for the night? It's very..." He searched for a good enough word. "... Entertaining. I promise I'll give it back."
-
'Alright,' Chester said, nodding. He figured nothing bad could happen, so long as nothing embarrassing was in it.
-
Jayden gave a real smile, glad that it seemed like a sign of trust between them. "Alright, thanks."
-
'All good,' Chester said with a shrug.
-
Jayd turned back to the diary after a bit of awkward silence, trying to find where he left off.
-
Chester turned back to his work.
-
There were a couple more lines where Chester repeated how the mystery girl just seemed to glow because of how beautiful she was, and about how perfect Chester though she was. Jayd didn't realize how tight his jaw was until his teeth started to hurt because of it.
