Jayd shrugged. "I don't know. I thought you just... I thought that you didn't think I could handle it."

Chester paused. He pulled Jayden closer, not responding for a moment. 'Honey, you're the strongest man I know. I definitely think you can handle it, but I just get scared I can't protect you from it.'

Jayden looked up at him, not liking the hesitation. "You don't need to protect me from any of it. It's my problem, not yours."

'I know that. I just hate seeing you upset,' Chester said, kissing his nose. 'I won't do it again, okay? I was just concerned about what Caden would do.'

"I know. Besides, you were right to be concerned." Jayd hid the cheek that got hit in Chester's shirt.

Chester gave a weak smile. 'Does it still hurt? Your cheek?' he asked quietly.

"Not much. It was just the shock and the initial sting mostly."

'Fair enough. Can I see it?' Chester asked.

Jayden nodded, pulling away and looking up at him to he could see.

Chester gently brushed his thumb against Jayden's cheekbone. 'Does that hurt?'

Jayd sighed softly. "Only a little. It might've bruised a bit."

Chester kissed the cheek that didn't hurt and moved his hand away from the one that did. 'You're still beautiful either way. I swear to god, if Caden lays a finger on you again, he'll regret it-'

Jayden smiled weakly. "Thanks, love."

Chester smiled back, kissing his nose. 'I love you, okay?'

Jayd grinned. "I love you too." He said happily.
