Hazel smiled and opened the door.

Theo walked through the door and down the stairs.

Hazel followed.

Hazel's dad was sitting down on the table with her stepmom next to him, raising his eyebrows when he saw Theo walking with Hazel. "You ready to talk about what happened at dinner?"

'No,' Hazel said bluntly.

"Hazel, I'm not in the mood for this." Her dad sighed. "Let's try to have a civil conversation over this."

Hazel clenched her jaw. 'Go on then.'

"Well would you like to try and explain yourself?"

'I don't think I'd be the one needing to,' Hazel said coldly. 'What about you?'

Hazel's dad raised an eyebrow. "You're not helping your case. I'd like an explanation as to why you got so angry in front of everyone."

'Why do you think?' Hazel said. 'It could've possibly been because it's only been a year and you're acting like nothing's happened!' -

Hazel's dad winced. "I know it's hard, but if you just stop and relax I think you'll find this a good opportunity!" -

'What do you mean, a good opportunity?!' -
"Well you could adapt and find that maybe your stepmom is a good fit! Plus it could help you find out how to adapt to change!"
