Collins glanced over at Florence for a moment. ‘I don’t get it. If they remember what happened to them and they’re mad about it doesn’t that mean they didn’t want to be like this in the first place?’

"yes. They didn't want it and they certainly didn't want the pain that happened once Nori died and my team left. Whatever obsidian did he made it infinitely worse." Holly said

‘Why didn’t you just get volunteers instead of experimenting on vulnerable people?’ Collins asked. ‘Was what Nori and Obsidian doing illegal?’

"first of all, everyone told us they were volunteers, everyone who knew they weren't volunteers were covering up the fact they weren't. Second, gene splicing is illegal according to all the laws I know." Holly said

‘Right. Well, if Obsidian is in jail, he can’t do anything to use. Why don’t we just explain everything to the authorities?’ Collins said.

"explain to the authorities that there are bloodthirsty, gene spliced monsters living in an abandoned hospital and they used to be humans who were wrongfully experimented on?" Holly said sarcastically.

‘… yeah. Maybe they can go to therapy or something?’ Collins said weakly.

"you do realize how insane that sounds right? It sounds like the plot of some horror game." Holly said. Florence walked into the forest and sat beside a pond. He looked at his face, the face of a creature who was a monster by definition.

'We have to help them, though. We can't just leave them to be unhappy for the rest of their lives.'

"we can. I don't think they ever will be happy. To help them you'd have to find a way to make them stop hating humans." Holly said. Florence watched his reflection in the water. It made him sad.

'Well, we can give them better beds, for starters. Make the hospital more homely somehow. And we could, y'know, not elbow them.'

"we don't elbow them... Well, except for Florence, but this whole issue is because he's different. Anyways, I don't think new beds matter to the intelligents." Holly said. Florence touched his reflection and watched it warp. He mimicked the word monster from someone else.

‘It’s not his fault though,’ Collins said. She was out of ideas.

"look, maybe... Actually I have an idea. Florence is sentient and kind, maybe we can figure out what makes him kind other than that stupid music box." Holly said. Florence saw the water warp again, this time he hadn't touched it. Tears leaked from his eyes breaking his reflection more and more

‘Maybe,’ Collins said. ‘But what would the point of that be?’
