"Because I've been to other towns before showing up here. There were plenty of kids with deformities. No rocks."

"but were they deformities that ruined their faces?" Valako asked. She'd seen other deformed people and in her mind no one looked as monstrous and ugly as she did

"Hey, yours isn't bad." Jonah said, smiling gently. "You're still beautiful."

"if my face isn't hideous then why was the main thing my mom told me as encouragement 'looks don't matter' or that 'personality is more beautiful than face." Valako said walking to the mirror

"It doesn't matter if nobody else can see that you're beautiful. I do."

Valako felt her face turn red at what she just heard. "You're the beautiful one." She muttered hiding the regular side of her face with her hands

Jonah's entire face went pink. "I-That-thank you." He whispered, smiling. "But you're prettier."

Valako was quickly turning as red as a tomato. "N-nuh uh y-you're prettier." Valako said turning away.

"That's impossible." Jonah insisted, his entire face going an even deeper shade of pink.

"it's definitely possible with your nice curly hair." Valako said. She felt like she was melting.

"Please, as if my hair could ever compare with yours." Jonah said, smiling from ear to ear.

"my hair is a rats nest in comparison. Plus your eyes, like emeralds or peridot stones. It's almost unfair to stand near your radiance." Valako said. She often got poetic when she was too embarrassed

"Well your eyes are.... Really pretty." Jonah said, looking at the floor and blushing even more than he already was. "I don't have anything poetic to say, they're just beautiful."

"th-th-thank you." Valako said. She got up and walked to the kitchen to calm herself down

Jonah nodded. "You're welcome." He said, walking into the kitchen with Valako.
