Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Are you just one of those kids that avoids talking at all costs or something?"

Nat frowned and shook her head.

"Then why are you not talking?" Dan asked, looking genuinely curious. "Did I do something wrong?"

Nat shook her head.

Dan tilted his head to the side, looking confused, but curious. "Can you say anything?"

She hesitated before shaking her head again, still not looking up.

"Why not? Is it a superstition thing?"

Nat frowned at shook her head again.

"Then what's wrong?" Daniel asked, raising his eyebrows.

Nat didn't reply, and fiddled with the hem of her jacket.

Daniel looked down at his shoelaces, not knowing what else to say or do.

She continued fiddling with the cuff of her sleeve, before glancing at Daniel then back at the ground.

“Well….. my sister seems to like you.” Daniel said, pointing at Eve. Even though she was playing with another kid, she kept stealing glances at Nat and waving.

Nat gave a small smile and a sheepish wave to Eve.

Eve waved back, more enthusiastically since Nat responded, which resulted in her getting found by the boy she was playing with.
