He smiled, then started playing a song called If I Die Young.

She didn't know the song, but she listened intently. She was amazed with how well he was able to play and how the music just flowed out of his fingers.

Blaze finished the song, then looked up at Claire. "what do you think?" he asks

"Beautiful," Claire smiled. "You're really skilled, how long have you been playing for?"

"just a couple years, i was in band class for a while before i became the 'bad boy'," he says, doing the finger quotes. "and i guess it just stuck with me."

"Can you teach me?" she asked.

"if you wanted to learn, i guess i could try to teach you." Blaze shrugs.

"Yes!" Claire bounced up and down on the couch in excitement.

"i'll show you the strings first then." Blaze says, then points to the strings on the guitar. "E, A, D, G, B, and E again."

So Claire learned, and pretty soon she was able to pluck a basic melody out of the guitar. She grinned up at Blaze in pride at her accomplishment, then focused again at her guitar, experimenting with different note combinations.
"Do you ever write your own songs?" she asked. -
"no, but i never really tried." Blaze says, smiling at her obvious pride.

Claire found a combination she rather liked and repeated it over and over again as if she were trying to memorize it. "Maybe you could try. I think you'd be pretty good at it."

"if you think i should, i will." he says, watching her play. "you're a natural!" he exclaims, grinning.

"I used to play piano," Claire explained. "So I do have a bit of experience with music besides the fact that I like to sing."

Blaze gets an idea when she says that. "hey, we should duet! i'll play the guitar, you sing!" he says.
