"Well, We've had to sneak around less since you became king, but i still think it would be an awful idea to-"
A loud pounding sounded on the door, and a deep and harsh voice called from outside. "Your Majesty, Permission to enter?" -
Clay quickly pushed Nick off his lap, nodding. "Yes, you may enter."
-
Nick scrambled to a respectable position and stood by the throne. "What was that about being more open, your highness-" He muttered.
"Sir we have caught the thief stealing from the local markets. It's a young girl." The knight said as he entered the room. -
Clay sighed, giving Nick a soft pleading look before looking to the knight. "How young is she?" He asked, frowning. "She looks quite young."
-
"I- I'm twelve sir. I think, at least." The small brunette girl interjected. "I just needed food for my family, sir. I'm so sorry."
(i gtg im sorry) -
(ur alright!)
Clay shook his head, leaning it back again. I can't bring myself to punish her. She's so young. He thought. He sighed and lifted his head. "Umm, what did you steal?" He asked gently, knoiwing his father would never have mercy on a girl caught stealing, no matter how young. -
Nick shifted uncomfortably and watched the scene unfold. He knew he wouldn't punish the girl. It's not like he wanted him to. He just hated the fact that a young girl had to steal not only for herself, but for her family. He sighed and met her eyes. 'It's okay' He mouthed.
The little girl nodded and then held up a hand. "Two rolls of b- bread, one apple, and I believe a- a flask of water? And a blanket b- because everyone i- is freezing out there."
(HEHEHE WINTER TIME) -
Clay sighed, shaking his head. He waved the knight off, walking towards the girl. "How many people in your family?" He asked quietly, kneeling down to be more her height.
-
The girl flinched and took a step back. "P- Please dont hurt me-" She pleaded with tears in her eyes.
Nick strode forward and fished a small piece of candy out of his pocket and handed it to the girl as her eyes widened. -
Clay smiled softly. "I would never. Please, tell me, how many people in your family?" He asked, his voice quiet and gentle. "I'd like to help." He glanced up at Nick and smiled, happy that he knew what to do.
-
The little girl smiled brightly. "R- Really!? You want to help!?"
Nick offered a sad smile, knowing the reputation the king before had.
"Well, there's seven people! Mommy, Daddy, Mr. Jay, mommy and daddy's boyfriend. And then theres me, and my younger brothers!" The little girl said with excitement. -
Clay tilted his head, quickly doing the math. "I can tell you, 2 loaves of bread and an apple won't do much." The blonde reached back and grabbed a small leather pouch he carried, filled with coins. He smiled, looking up at Nick before looking to the girl. "Close your eyes and hold out your hand." He said quietly.
-
Nick smiled as the girl closed her eyes and waited nervously.
-
Clay laughed a little, taking a small handful of coins and pushing them gently into the girl's hand and closing her hand around the coins. He carefully held her hand, a perfect picture of how much of a difference there was between him and his father. "Open your eyes."
-
The girls eyes fluttered open and she stared in disbelief at her hand. "W- What!? Are you sure!? Your Highness I appreciate it deeply but you really don't have to-"
"No, take it. We insist!" Nick said happily. He smiled down at the girl and then at his lover.
"Oh my, thank you so much!!" She exclaimed
