Jamie rolled his eyes. "How about no," he said. He paused in thought for a moment before asking, "What's something you always wanted to do as a kid?"
-
“Something I…. always wanted to… do as a kid…?” Ethel seemed genuinely shocked by his question, not knowing exactly how to answer it. “I never really wanted anything as a child other than to get good grades on my studies. What about you?”
-
"I doubt that," Jaime said. "What about before you were in school?"
-
“Before I was…. in school?” It took Ethel a long moment to ponder over his inquiry. The silence was drawn out for a bit of time, before she finally answered him in a slightly timid voice. “I can’t exactly recall any memories from before I went to school.”
-
Jaime looked at her in surprise. "Not one?"
-
Ethel shook her head regretfully.
“Unfortunately not. I started school quite early, possibly when I was about three turning four. It’s very hard to recall memories before that, but I’m sure I was a prim and proper toddler in that timeframe.”
Ethel cocked a slim eyebrow at Jaime.
“And what about you? What did you wish to accomplish as a little child?” -
"Hold that question," Jaime said. "Even if you were treated like a mini adult, you were still a kid. It's literally impossible for someone to not be allowed to do something they want to do."
-
“I’m sure that I never knew what I wanted to do when I was younger considering my brain had barely been developed at that point.” Ethel stated. Her facial expression softens up a bit. “Although, I’m sure dressing up as a pretty little princess surely must have crossed my mind at some point. For some reason, many young toddlers are obsessed with the color hot pink. It isn’t a bad color, I must say.”
-
"You don't wear it though," Jaime said, looking at her outfit consisting of blanched blues and grays.
-
“My parents would consider wearing such a color as childish and improper. I must say that it sounds strange since a color is just a color and nothing more.” Ethel smoothed out her dress. “I suppose I might wear hot pink when I come of age to start my own life.”
-
"Watch out, she's gone wild!" Jaime joked.
-
Ethel’s eyes widened, her face flushing up in embarrassment.
“No, I shall not go wild like a rowdy animal. I just believe that I should add a bit more of color into my life.” Ethel stared down at her ice cream, but a slight grin crept up her face at the joke he had made. -
"Okay, okay," Jaime chuckled. "Let's go back to the house. I'm sure you've had too many adventures for one day."
-
“I’m not sure getting ice cream can be considered an adventure, but sure.” Ethel nodded her head in agreement. “It was very nice however.”
-
"Twister and ice cream in one day for someone like you is definitely an adventure," Jaime insisted as they began to walk back home.
