“Hmph, and who said I was enjoying your company?” Ethel crossed her arms and threw her head to the side, refusing to look at him. Yet it was clear that she was enjoying his company. Very much.
-
"I dunno. You were comfortable enough to want to lick my ice cream," Jaime commented.
-
“W-Why you…-!” Ethel looked both incredibly flustered and shocked at the comment he had made. She averted her eyes away from him and settled her line of vision on the empty table next to theirs. “I… well, I was just testing you.”
-
"Testing me?" Jaime said, raising his eyebrow in intrigue. "What was the test for?"
-
Ethel ceased her words, not knowing how in the world she would reply to that question. She kept her gaze on the other table, her cheeks starting to flush red in embarrassment.
“A test of your…. trust! Yes, your trust. How much you trust strangers, and ahem, you failed with dull colors!” -
"So I could have done worse," Jaime said.
-
“Done worse? Whatever do you mean by that?” Ethel looks at him with curiosity.
-
"Since I passed with dull colors rather than flying colors," Jaime explained.
-
Ethel stared at him blankly, but then sighed a few moments later.
“Fine. There may be a small palette of colors inside of your terrible score, but only a little bit. And it’s quite faded as well.” -
"You're still saying I did rather well," Jaime pointed out with a smile.
-
Ethel’s eyes widened slightly in realization. Oh goodness gracious, did she just contradict herself?
“Ahem,” she cleared her throat awkwardly, not too happy that he had pointed that out. She was left in silence, not knowing what else to say. “Well.” -
Jaime chuckled and finished off his ice cream. "What would you like to do after this?" he asked.
-
“Well, considering tomorrow is a brand new day of school, do you have any homework to complete? Or do you have any pop quizzes that the teacher warned you about?” Ethel asked. She couldn’t think of doing anything else other than things academic.
-
"I already told you I had, plus it's not a pop quiz if you know it's going to happen before hand," Jaime said.
-
“Hmph, fine then. In that case, how about I test you to make sure you really did complete your homework?”
