"Dream," George shook his head. "Don't say that. Look at me, please."
-
Clay hesitated a moment before looking over at George.
-
"You should not have bled out at the beach," George said sternly. "You have worth, and you are not a giant slip-up. You don't mess up all the time, and you're one of the nicest human beings on this planet. I don't know what I would've done without you."
-
"What do you mean 'done without me'?" He asked quietly. "You probably would have been just fine."
-
"Dream," George whispered. "I'd still be with Matthew right now if it wasn't for you."
-
Clay took a step forward and gently hugged George. "What happens when you need to go back?" He asked softly. He both wanted to divert the attention away from himself and keep George safe.
-
"I don't know," George whispered. "But that doesn't matter, right now. Dream, you can't think this way."
-
Dream sighed. "I'll be fine, I've managed to make it this far." He took a step back from the hug, but his hand lingered on George's shoulder. "I'm more worried about you."
-
"I'm fine for now," George said, glancing at Dream's hand on his shoulder.
-
"Are you sure?" Clay asked hesitantly.
-
"Yeah," George said with a shrug. "But this isn't what we're talking about. That was just trying to show you how an amazing person you are?"
-
Clay noticed his hand and quickly moved it back to the tree branch. "I'm just another person." He said sadly. "You needed to get out of that situation, and I'd prefer you stay out of it. But I did what literally anyone else would do, in fact someone else could have done better."
-
"Better in what way?" George asked, tilting his head.
-
"I- I don't know. Someone better than I am probably could keep you out of that situation." And tell you how they really feel, and keep you truly safe, and ACTUALLY help people.... Clay's mind ran on and he sighed.
-
"Eh," George shrugged. "You're actually helping a lot more than you think. It's hard to help people in- my situation. I guess."
