“W-Well, I mean you did ask me to meet you out here, a-and I- I just don’t like to let people down, y’know,” Evan replied, looking up at Chloe. -
Chloe shrugged. "If you say so. Anyway, let's get going," she replied, striding off to the way to her house.
-
Evan nodded hastily and followed Chloe, staying by her side. He pulled out his phone and sent a quick message to his mother, letting her know he was going to a friend’s house. Well, more so acquaintance. Boy would she get a kick outta this, her son finally making friends.
-
Chloe reached her house. It was like a small mansion, but she grumbled when she saw it, flinging the door open contemptuously. A pleasantly plump and bright older woman was inside, humming and baking something.
-
Evan followed Chloe inside, gazing around in awe at the fancy house. “You- You live here??” He asked, fidgeting with the hem of his button up shirt. “It’s really nice.”
-
Chloe glanced half-heartedly at the house before shrugging. "Yeah, it's alr-" She was interrupted by the baking woman from earlier crushing her in a hug.
"Chloe, you're home!" the lady said brightly, pinching Chloe's cheeks and getting flour stains smudged on them. Chloe, surprisingly, didn't seem to mind. She even smiled a little.
"Hey Nana," she said softly, before remembering that Evan was there and gently pulling the woman's hands away.
Nana turned around and gasped with delight. "And who is this young gentleman?" -
Evan froze and smiled anxiously, waving at the older woman. “H-Hi, I’m uhm, I’m Evan. Evan Heere. I’m one of uh, one of Chloe’s classmates.”
-
The woman used her apron to curtsey, a warm smile on her face. "Well it's lovely to see that my little Chloe is making friends! Oh, I almost forgot to introduce myself. I'm Clara Buttons, and I'm the maid. But you can call me Nana or Mom if you want!"
Chloe wiped flour stains off of her cheeks, giving Evan a comforting half smile as if telling him not to worry. -
“It’s-It’s nice to meet you too, Miss Clara,” Evan said anxiously, smiling back at the woman.
-
-
The woman beamed. "Such a polite young gentleman. Do you want something to eat? I have plenty of things," the woman said generously.
Chloe face-palmed. "Uh, maybe later? We were going to go do something, sorry."
Nana's face fell ever so slightly. "Oh," she said, before smiling again. "Well I'll just feed you both after! See you later, dears." -
“It’s- It’s fine, I’m not hungry,” Evan said with an anxious smile, crossing his arms. He subconsciously shifted closer to Chloe’s side, staring down at the floor for a moment.
-
"Alright, thank you Nana, byee!" she called out rapidly, taking Evan by the arm and leading him away. "Thank God she didn't offer to show you the picture book."
-
“What picture book?” Evan asked curiously, a small smirk appearing on his face. “Maybe of old, embarrassing photos of you when you were younger?”
-
Chloe lightly punched him in the arm, her face growing warm. "I-" she began. "Shut up, Heere."
