Honeysuckle pounced at a mouse, killing it before it even had the chance to squeak. A clean kill and a nice piece of prey. She wished that it were just a little fatter, but leafbare was almost over and soon the forest would be filled with soft green things and the camp would be filled with kits.
She sighed. Kits... Everyone always insisted that she find a mate and "settle down", wanting her to be a baby machine like her sister, Leafswirl. Her sister was already having a second litter, after Sugarpaw and Lemonpaw had left the nursery. The idea of being in a jampacked nursery with a bunch of squirmy kits at her belly just wasn't appealing to her. -
Birchleaf caught a rather large pheasant, hoping it would impress Honeysuckle, whom he was hunting with, because a bird as large as this in leaf-bare was hard to find. He carried it back to her and saw she'd caught a mouse. "We've done pretty good. Should we head back now?"
Blackears was on a solo border patrol, but he had found a rather plump mouse. He crouched low and began to chase it, but it ran over the border. He caught it anyways, and as soon as, noticed a beautiful golden she-cat in the bushes. Despite her beauty and gracefulness, he hoped she hadn't heard him, forgetting that he was upwind of them, and they could probably smell him by now. -
Honeysuckle was interrupted from her thoughts by her friend, Birchleaf. She tried not to sigh. Ever since the two had become warriors, he had started growing progressively friendly towards her. She smiled as warmly as possible at him. "Yeah! I think we're ready. Nice catch, that pheasant looks huge."
A ShadowClan scent drifted over to her, along with the scent of fresh prey. She flicked Birchleaf's pelt with her tail. "Hey, do you smell that?" -
Birchleaf froze as he scented the air. "Yeah... smells like an intruder!" He said, eyes wide in alarm as he turned to see a gray tom with black ears.
"Hi- er- sorry, my mouse crossed the border before I caught it." Blackears mewed. -
Honeysuckle blinked in surprise at the handsome tom that had just appeared next to them. It was uncommon for a ShadowClan cat to admit that they were wrong or to apologize for their misdeeds. Or so she had heard.
"Oh no, it's alright!" she said with a friendly purr. "It was on your side of the border first anyway." -
Birchleaf felt a snarl rising in his throat. "We can't give away prey, Honeysuckle! It's the middle of leaf-bare!"
Blackears glanced at Birchleaf, feeling a bit intimidated. "You can keep it if you need it that badly."
