Perival nodded understandingly. "I myself am not one to fight. But I've found that making friends can often reveal itself to be a troubling business."
-
"It really can be," Sigrun said. "But if both of you agree to lay down your swords it's a definite place to start."
-
"I wish they could all be more like you," Perival said with a frown. "But the ones I've met generally prefer to stab at me."
-
"Same here," Sigrun said. "Have you ever wondered why there must be one remaining?"
-
"I assume that it's a sort of challenge," Perival said. "To prove that you're worthy of whatever gift they'll grant."
-
"Well it'd better be a good gift if you have to kill however many people to get it," Sigrun muttered.
-
Perival nodded. "I just think that whatever gift it is, it must be something very powerful or rare. And it'll fall into the hands of a bloodthirsty murderer," he said bitterly.
-
"This system is so flawed," Sigrun said.
As they were talking, a bloodthirsty murderer just so happened to be keeping an eye on them (with his men, not he himself) -
AAAAA))
"It should be changed," Perival said. "But who would take a stand? There is nothing one man can do against people so cruel." -
Sigrun sighed. "Immortality is so difficult."
-
"Tell me about it," Perival said. "I just wish it was all over and I could grow old with someone. What do you want, Sigrun?"
-
"I want to feel the exhilaration of life again," Sigrun said. "I want to look forward to the next day knowing something new and different will happen."
-
"I'm sure you've tried almost everything there is to try," Perival said.
-
"Yep," Sigrun said. "Everything within my morals, at least."
-
Perival snorted. "Didn't think of that."
