Kammion seemed a little bit afraid now. "I know" was all she said.
-
Tyler half dragged her to the alley he had been in before. "This is one of the safe alleyways," he told her. "I'll show you the other ones I know of tomorrow. You were lucky I came along when I did. That particular man you bumped into doesn't take kindly to resistance."
-
"Thanks," she whispered. She felt the need to whisper, although there was no one around.
-
Tyler sat down on the same wooden crate as he had before. He sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. "I'm Tyler, by the way," he said.
-
"Oh - um, hi, Tyler. I'm Kammion. Kammi for short." Kammi seemed reluctant to stay, as if she would get mugged at any second (which was actually a possibility now).
-
"So, you're a rich girl that ran away from home, huh," Tyler said. "What'd they do, take your allowance away, or somethin'?"
-
"I don't want to talk about it," Kammi told Tyler defensively. "And no." Kammi glared at him.
-
"Let me just say it takes one to know one," Tyler said. "I ran away from home too, years ago."
-
Kammi glanced at him warily. "Your reason?"
-
Tyler wondered if he should tell her. "I didn't feel safe," he said quietly. "I figured if I didn't feel safe in my own home I shouldn't be there."
-
"Understandable," Kammion said. She then thought to add, "Thanks for having the faith to tell me."
-
"Thanks for having the faith that I wouldn't attack you or anything," Tyler said.
-
Kammi laughed, then stopped herself and replaced her expression with a serious one. "Well, I guess you've proved yourself in a way," she told Tyler.
-
"Good," Tyler said. "I'll also have you meet some of my friends tomorrow. Streetlife isn't always about survival, they'll certainly teach you that," he chuckled at some of his memories of them.
-
"Well, all right," Kammi didn't know how to react to this. "Sounds good?"
