Clarissa turned away from the large mansion and started walking into the streets. She had no idea what to do or where to go. By the time she got out of the neighborhood it began to lightly sprinkle. She pulled up the good of her zip-up hoodie over her head.
She got to the part of the city where there were stores and apartment complexes. She ducked into an alley, hoping to find something so she could get out of the rain. Suddenly she tensed up as she heard a rough male voice.
"This is our alley," a man emerged from the darkness to where glimmers of the street lights outside made him somewhat visible. "And you're not welcome here."
"I'm very sorry," Clarissa said. "I'll be leaving now," and she turned around to go try and find somewhere else.
The man saw that she had a pack and decided it would be of more benefit to him than to her to have it. He wanted it. He pounced at her from behind.
Clarissa shrieked as she was pushed to the ground with the man on top of her. "Get off of me!" she cried out, hoping that someone could hear her through the sound of the tiny droplets hitting the ground.

Suddenly, he felt a shudder go down his spine as a loud shriek came from a nearby dark alley. He knew it had to be the alley 'cats', otherwise it wouldn't be coming from an alley. Stopping his happy tune, he began running towards the sound, not stopping until he had arrived. There, was the group of alley kids, trying to beat up a seemingly innocent girl. "Hey!" He shouted, angrily glaring at the teenagers. "I told you to knock it off, didn't I? You either get out of here, or I'm gonna do something bad to you." He then pulled out a sharp knife, threatening to cut the alley kids.
-
Clarissa tried flipping herself onto her back, but she was pinned down by the person on top of her so she couldn't.
Most of the people ran off at the person, but some of them stayed. The one on top of Clarissa grabbed a cord out of his pocket and started choking her. She grasped at the cord, trying to pull it away from her neck but she couldn't. -
Seeing this, he had time to react with a swift motion of his pocket knife; he dashed forward, before slicing the person who had been choking the innocent girl to practical death in the side. The person's wound seemed painful, as a giant gash now leaked with freshly renewed blood.
-
The man cried out in startlement and pain. He glared at the man with the knife as he held his hand over his wound and staggered away as fast as he could.
Clarissa laid there, gasping for breath. "Thank you," she said quietly as she struggled to get up. -
He offered a hand to the girl. "No problem!" He beamed helplessly, before adding; "Hey, are you new to the streets? You seem weak. I mean- gah, that sounded rude! What's the word... Ah! Vulnerable! You seem vulnerable!"
-
Clarissa laughed a little. "Honestly, I am everything you just said. "New, weak an vulnerable. I've never fought anyone."
-
He gasped in astonishment. "What happened!? How have you never fought anyone!? Didn't you ever come to near-death experiences before this!? Why are you here!? But most of all, how are you here!?" He completely burst into random questions.
-
"Uhhh one question at a time, please," Clarissa said. "My mouth doesn't move that fast."
-
"Huh. Odd." He laughed. "Usually people interrupt me before I can even ask just one more question." He then paused, his breathing coming out in short, uneasy huffs. "How did you get here?"
-
"I walked," Clarissa said. She explained it all in further detail. "My family kicked me out. Well, more like my aunt, but no one even tried to stop her."
-
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" He then sat down, leaning over to give the girl a comforting hug. "Are you okay...?"
-
Clarissa wasn't used to any of this from a complete stranger. "I am," She said, keeping her arms at her sides.
