"I don't know..." He sagged his shoulders sadly. "What is there to do...?"
-
"What is there to do?!" Amelia said. "What isn't there to do?"
-
"Uh- am I supposed to know something...?" He tried his best to conceal his laughter, but failed.
-
"Have you been living under a rock your whole life, or something?" Amelia asked.
-
"Well, basically!" He laughed humorously. "Where do you live on earth?"
-
"America," Amelia shrugged.
-
"Oh? Is that it?" He asked, tilting towards her slightly so he could hear her better.
-
Amelia laughed. "No, I'm from Nebraska. Where are you from?"
(I just did Nebraska because for some reason almost every tv show or movie has a reference to Nebraska and it's the state I know the most about) -
Oop- The state I know most about is Idaho, but I'll choose random.))
"Oh! Nebraska!" He chuckled, before admitting; "I don't have a home. But before I lost my home, I lived in Kentucky. It was a beautiful state." -
(But seriously, if you pay attention, there's always some off reference to Nebraska. It's weird.
"I've never been there," Amelia said. "Nebraska is full of cornfields. There's some saying, I can't really remember what it is, but it's something about how 98% of the population lives in the cities and 98% of it is farmland." -
Oop-))
"Huh. That's odd." He paused. "Usually it's a 100 scale, not a 196 scale." -
(*98% of the state, that is)
"No, you see, two percent of the population lives on the farmland, which makes up ninety-eight percent of the state. And ninety-eight percent of the population lives in the cities, which make up two percent of the land," Amelia said. "The saying is basically saying that there's way more farmland, but way more people live in the cities." -
"Ohh, I get it!" He then sheepishly laughed. "Sorry."
-
"It's okay," Amelia said, chuckling. "Wait, how did you lose your home?" she asked, finally processing that bit of information.
-
"Well..." He paused. "After my family died, I lost my job. I searched desperately to find a new one, but failed miserably. So, I couldn't pay bills, funds, nothing. It came to a point I couldn't even pay for food and water. I spent time everyday, going out to pick some fruit. But, soon, they kicked me out of my house. Someone else bought the house, and I had to live on the street for a bit of time. That's just when time became my enemy. I had to dig through trash to find food, sip from lakes to get water, and more. It was not very fun, but I had to do it to survive. I'll continue in those ways once we reach earth again, anyways..."
