She padded over to the medicine cat. "I know I shouldn't be cheating but me and Dragonkit and Flamekit were playing hide and seek and I've checked the whole camp twice... have you seen them?"

Singefur shook her head, grooming herself and looking troubled. "I haven't. Do you suppose that they might have gone out of camp?"
The apprentice dragged the dead fox pup into camp, causing the clan to jump to their paws in alarm. His green eyes blazed with energy but he remained still. -
Streampaw looked at the fox and her jaw dropped. "Is that a fox...?"

The apprentice dropped the lifeless lump onto the ground, shaking his head to get rid of the fox fur on it. "Yeah, it was going after these kits."
Flamekit dropped her gaze guiltily whereas Dragonkit was triumphantly holding his mouse. "Look, Streampaw! I caught something!" -
Streampaw looked from the fox to the kits to the mouse and turned to the medicine cat. "Tell me this is some weird dream."

Singefur was gaping at the strange sight herself. "I wish," she said before coming to her senses. "Is everyone alright? Woodpaw, why don't you bury that out of camp? I'm sure no one would take a mouthful out of that."
Lizardleap watched Dragonkit place his mouse on the prey pile with both pride and disappointment. Dewstar frowned at the kit, which finally struck a pang of shame into his heart. -
She sighed. "I shouldn't have suggested playing hide and seek, maybe then they wouldn't have gone out of camp..."

"It isn't your fault," Singefur said reassuringly. "It's likely that they would have run off with or without your game."
After being lectured on how dangerous the forest was, Dragonkit ran over to Streampaw. "Did you see that mouse I caught? Wasn't it big?" -
She nodded. "It was, but you shouldn't have gone off on your own like that. If the apprentice hadn't been there to take care of that fox..." She shuddered.

Dragonkit turned to stare at Woodpaw. "Yeah, that would have been scary," he admitted. "But he WAS there."

Streampaw shrugged. "If he wasn't, though... that could've been bad."

"Yeah, it could have," Flamekit said, shooting Dragonkit a look. He cowered under her gaze. "Look what you've done, you mousebrain! Cats could have gotten hurt and it could take a long time for us to become apprentices."
"I didn't make you go," Dragonkit shot back. Lizardleap got to her paws.
"That's quite enough, you two!" she snapped. "Go to the nursery now." -
Streampaw got up with a sigh, wincing slightly at the pain in her paw.

Lizardleap frowned sympathetically towards Streampaw. "Are you alright? You winced."
