Ander made one pack out of his two and slung it over his shoulder, offering to take Kenna's.

"I've got it," Kenna said as she put her pack on.

"You can take my backpack," Lilac said, plunking it into Ander's hand. He shot her a look of amused disbelief.

Kenna looked at Ander with laughing eyes. She didn't think that's what he had been planning to do .

"Lilac-" Ander began.
"What happened to being a gentleman?" Lilac said. "Nothing. Thank you, baggage man."
"Baggage man?" Ander said with a laugh.
"You heard me," Lilac said, grinning evilly. -
(What's the term for the donkey that ends up holding everything?)

"Difference between a baggage man and a pack mule," Kenna pointed out. -

"'Scuse me?" Ander said. Lilac shook with suppressed laughter. -
Kenna smiled. "Seems that's what Lilac wants you to be," she said.

"Probably," Ander said, slinging the pack over his shoulder all the same. "You carry your own pack next time."
Lilac poked her tongue out teasingly, fitting a saddle thing on Regal. Crypta was in the process of making YET ANOTHER PIE. -
"Have you ever made anything else?" Kenna asked Crypta.

"Yes, but they don't turn out so well," Crypta said, frowning in remembrance.

"I can't make cookies to save my life," Kenna said. "No oven likes me."
