"Well, not exactly," Jessie said. "I know lots of people with odder names, but I've never quite heard a name like yours. It sounds sort of...royal."
-
Isorin smirked to himself, standing up a little straighter. "It does, doesn't it? Do you like it?"
-
"Well yes, I suppose," Jessie said. "What do you think about the name 'Jessie'?"
-
Isorin thought about it for a moment. "I think it's a rather cute name. Common, perhaps, but.. Still a good name." He cracked his knuckles, turning his attention to the city. "You said earlier that you're attending college. What do you study?"
-
"Well, psychology for one," Jessie said, her brows furrowed in thought as she touched her fingers to her temples. "They want me to answer the meaning of life, but that's a question that few can answer. And I don't like the answers I've been finding."
-
Isorin wasn't totally sure what psychology was, but at least he understood the second half of her explanation. "Well, what answers have you found so far?"
-
"'Nothing,'" Jessie said, lifting up a finger. "'Enjoying yourself', 'being comfortable'...all of the reasons I've found seem so selfish to me."
-
Isorin tilted his head. "Well, is it wrong to be a little selfish? If you only have so much time to live... Why not do things that make you happy?"
-
"It's good to do things that make you happy," Jessie admitted. "But having a life only devoted to making yourself happy doesn't seem very fulfilling."
-
Isorin fell silent for a moment. He had only ever lived his life for himself. He couldn't see how that wasn't fulfilling. He enjoyed every second... Hadn't he? "..What would be fulfilling to you, then?"
-
"I...I don't know," Jessie said. "I thought that making my parents proud of me was fulfilling, but I'm not happy. I think that in a fulfilling life, you would be happy, but there's more than just being happy."
-
"I see.." Isorin gave her a halfhearted smile, trying to lighten the mood. "I hope you find the answer you're looking for. Though, it would be much easier to not think about it, right?"
-
A small smile played at her lips. "Yeah, I guess so," she said. She pushed open the door to the coffee shop with unnecessary force, causing it to bounce back and smack her.
-
Isorin slapped a hand over his mouth, struggling to contain a laugh. He lightly grabbed onto her shoulder, trying to pull her away from the door. "A-Are you alright, Jessie?"
-
Jessie touched a hand to her now throbbing forehead. She was sure that a bump would rise soon. "Owww..," she groaned. "Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just go in."
