Harper shook his head. "I can't say," he said, his voice still quiet. Then he turned from her. amd started walking towards the door a bit. "I have to go."
-
"Oh," Crypta said, sounding disappointed. "Okay...bye."
The horse followed Harper. -
Harper heard a sort of clanking (?) behind him and turned around. The horse was following him. "Go back to Crypta," he told it.
-
;-;))
The horse deliberately stomped one of its feet in a childish gesture and nudged Harper. -
"No," Harper said and gently pushed the horse away. He looked at Crypta. "I'm really sorry," he said. "I wish I could stay. But it would be better for both of us."
-
"That's okay. But the horse is trained to follow you, the obeying part isn't quite developed yet," Crypta said, with a hint of an impish smile. "It's actually stopped the development so that it doesn't have to listen if it doesn't want to. Clever, isn't he?"
-
Harper nodded. Looks like he was stuck with the horse.
Suddenly there was a loud hard pounding on the door. Harper's instincts kicked in. He knew exactly who was at the door. "Hide," he whispered. -
Crypta shrunk the horse and folded it up, lifting a hidden trapdoor and slipping through it to a secret basement.
-
Harper followed her in. He closed the door. "Is there any way they'd be able to find this?" he asked. He heard the door being crashed down and a bunch of people running in.
-
Crypts shook her head. "It's not a door anymore, so no. It only responds to my touch. I just sent out a signal that sends all of my important inventions to a safe place."
She took a deep breath after the long explanation. "I just don't know how they found us." -
Harper knew how, he just wasn't sure if he should tell Crypta. They were storming through her house, he knew it was too much for her to ignore.
-
The horse stared at Harper, silently scanning him. Crypta leaned against the horse, thinking it over.
"Were they looking for you?" she asked. -
Harper nodded. He had thought that had been obvious from the beginning. "And whoever owns the house."
-
Crypta shuddered. "Who are those people?"
-
"Later," Harper said. "When they leave." He didn't know how soundproof this place was (even though he pressured that it was very soundproof), and he'd rather not be hiding for his life while telling her.
