Harper nodded then changed the subject. "We're going to a lake house that Crypta mentioned, unless you have a better idea," Harper said.
-
Kohana perked up, her eyes bright and rejuvenated by this tidbit. "The lake house? I've been there! The tall man and the girl let me play there when I was small."
Robo was just staring at nothingness as a whirring noise began to come from his head. -
Harper looked at her. "Really?" He was about to continue when Robo caught his attention. "What's wrong, Robo?"
-
Kohana nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! I thought it was like a castle. I can't wait to see it again."
"Reviewing memories," Robo said in his strange voice. "Memory replay?" -
Harper shrugged. "Sure," he said to Robo, not knowing exactly what he was meaning.
"Then lead the way," he told Kohana. -
Kohana's deer tiptoed gracefully past any obstacles in his way whereas Pad just crushed them under his powerful hooves.
Robo's eyes went dull and began to glow faintly as he projected a hologram, displaying Crypta. "Is this thing on?" she said, sounding puzzled. "Hello? Alright, it's on. This is Emily Brown, but I've decided to call myself Crypta instead! You know, because...well, never mind."
The Robo in the past made a small huffing noise. Past Crypta sighed.
"Alright, alright. This is the start of a scientific breakthrough! I have transferred the soul of my deceased dog into this mechanical form. It took ages, but I got it! Robo is the first ever robotic dog to have a soul. As long as his mechanical form doesn't break, it should carry his soul for, well, forever! He might never die." -
Harper jumped when he heard Crypta's voice. He stared at the hologram, letting Pad follow Kohana's deer. Crypta's name was Emily Brown?
-
Crypta wriggled her fingers happily. "Isn't that so cool? I've half-considered making myself another form but who wants to live forever? Apparently every nasty being out there, so I have to be Crypta to keep my family safe. Or what's left of it, anyway."
The scene switched to Crypta sitting down in a seat, staring out of a window. "It's lonely, isn't it Robo? Living out in a place where no one will find you."
The scene switched again, this time to a boy with dark hair who was smiling tentatively. Crypta clapped happily.
"A new friend! His name is Ander, but I'm calling him Andy. He's from my old town and he's kinda on the run or something like that. Isn't that cool?!" -
Harper couldn't help but smile slightly at the images being shown to him.
-
Robo skipped through a lot of memories, little snippets of happiness flashing by until he found the one he wanted. The one with the Irish jig. Everyone was laughing and happy in that memory and the metal dog let out a mournful whine.
-
Harper reached over and pet him, comforting the poor dog. Robo just had lost the most important person in his life.
-
-
Robo leaned his head against Harper's leg, whimpering. "I miss," he said robotically.
-
"So do I," Harper said. He turned to Kohana. "How much longer until we get there?"
-
"Well we're not going to get there today," Kohana said, sitting on her stag backwards, leaning back on his neck. "Your dog is a library of memories. He probably records each moment of his life, even this one."
