Harper took her hand and took the hand of the person next to him, not completely understanding what was going on
-
-
The girl closed her eyes and began to hum as well. It was a mournful tune and it seemed like they were almost...praying? No, that wasn't quite the right word. But the trees began to sway in rhythm as little specks of light began to drift out of the ground, latching onto the dead.
-
Harper just stared in surprise at what was happening around him. It struck a vein of awe in his heart.
-
The specks continued to float of the ground until the bodies were completely covered, glowing with brilliant light before drifting away in the wind, leaving nothing but the swaying grass behind.
"They've been taken to the Spirit Realm," the girl explained, before taking Harper's hand. "We can prepare to leave after their names have been written." -
Harper didn't ask what she meant by that, he just assumed he would find out soon enough.
-
The girl lead him to a big tree and when I say big, I mean, BIG big. It was as wide as a house and its branches rose up higher than a building. Soft pink petals fluttered down and the girl stretched out her hand to catch one before letting it drift away in the wind.
"We write down their names so that they will not be forgotten when they are carried to peace," she explained, handing Harper a sharp rock. "I did not ask you your name, Fighter. What is it?" -
"Harper," he said as he took the rock from her. Looking closer at the enormous tree, he could see hundreds, maybe thousands of names engraved into it.
-
The girl picked up her own rock and began to etch three names into the tree, right next to two others in her handwriting. "That's a pretty name," she commented, offering the rock to Robo. "Would you like to write too?"
The metallic dog flinched away from her before pricking his ears in understanding, taking the rock and adding a singular dot onto the tree. -
Harper pressed the stone against the tree and started carving Crypta's name. And somehow, even though the blocky letters seemed like all the other ones on the tree, Crypta's name stood out.
-
Robo whined and pressed his nose against Crypta's carved out name, before trailing off to sulk. The girl finished her carving and followed him with a child like curiosity.
-
Harper let out a sigh, stroking her engraved name in remembrance. Crypta had been the first one who had cared about him. He would never forget her. Harper then went to go find Robo and the girl.
-
As Harper left the tree, Crypta's name seemed to glow for a brief moment. Robo was sitting in a clearing full of lush grass, the girl sitting next to him and making a flower crown. Robo seemed to say something, but it was difficult to hear.
"We are not so different, you and I," the girl told the metal canine. "I'm Kohana, and you are Robo. Both of us are a little lost, are we not? Tell me more about your friend. Is-"
She drifted off when she spotted Harper. "Has her name been written?" -
Harper nodded. "We should leave soon."
-
Kohana nodded and placed the flower crown on Robo's head, causing the dog to chirrup and tilt his head curiously before sneezing when a petal fell on his nose. The girl giggled.
"I like your dog," she said, making odd little hand motions as she talked. "He can speak."
