Crypta tried to remain as quiet as possible, hoping not to disturb whoever was inside. She heard footsteps over head and rough voices. What was going on?
-
Harper looked up as he heard the voices. He pressed himself even closer to the side of the hole. The little bit of sunlight that was coming though might make his blonde hair stand out.
-
Crypta held her breath, not that breathing was pleasant in the dank, earthy pit anyway. The voices faded away as did their footsteps, and she took a shaky breath. "Who are you?" she asked Harper.
-
Harper considered for a moment telling her, for he knew it was a her by her voice, but decided against it. He didn't know enough about her, whether she was trustworthy or not.
-
Eventually Crypta's stubbornness became greater than her fear. "Fine then. Who were all those people and why are you in a pit?"
-
Again, Harper was silent. Instead of just sitting there being interrogated, he climbed out of the pit.
-
Crypta was determined to get to the bottom of this. After all, people didn't just magically appear in the woods, especially not with people...hunting after them?
-
(when I said in the plot that he wouldn't say who he was running from I didn't realize I'd be taking it literally)
Harper got out of the pit and looked down at the girl, unsure of if she would be able to get out on her own or not. It was deeper than previously anticipated. He had only thought it was a hole, not a pit. -
Lol, Crypta's being kinda nosy rn))
So that was it. The stranger was looking down on her both physically and metaphorically. She clambered out of the pit with the aid of a tree root and looked at him. "Well, if you need a place to stay for tonight, I have a little room." The robot in her pocket whirred and crawled onto her shoulder. -
Harper stared at the robot for a second. Little machines crawling out of her pockets? He'd never seen anything like that happen before. He looked back at the girl and nodded. He didn't know where to go now that he escaped.
-
(indeed she is)
-
But then again, the dude could be a criminal for all she knows))
Crypta nodded, her expression businesslike. "Alright then, it's settled. Come on, let's go," she said, walking back to the house. -
Harper followed her, not knowing why she was helping him, but he didn't ask.
-
Crypta opened the door to her house to let him in, before bustling off to get him something to eat and drink. She may live in the woods, but she hadn't forgotten her hostess manners!
-
Harper walked inside. It was much nicer than where he had been before. He had forgotten how things were like after so long.
