"I don't know," Harper said. "Maybe an hour, maybe a few days, you never know."

Crypta shuddered. "They sound terrifying."

"They are," Harper said. "That's why I want to get away."

"There must be a way to stop them," Crypta decided. "What ways have you tried to escape them?"

"I tried doing it with a group of people but they came back. Then they came back stronger and put more restrictions on everyone. I tried using air ducts. Then they kept a close eye on me, and this time it was too good of a chance to let up," Harper said.

"What were you doing anyway?" Crypta said. "You couldn't have run for that long."

"Every few years they have these Do or Die things," Harper said. "This time they put us in the forest full of dangers, and we had to survive a week having been given no supplies."

"What if you can't find anything?" Crypta said, although she felt like she knew the answer.

"Then you die," Harper said. "It's used to get the weak out of there."

Crypta shuddered. "That's awful."
