"That's fine for me," Callyn agrees with a nod. She fiddles with some pebbles in her hand, excited to practice more when she got the chance.
"Yeah sure, I didn't really have plans or anything," Kim says, distractedly wondering how many hours of anime watching time he's going to lose.
Reese hands everyone a scrap of paper with with her number on it. "Okie dokie. Text me later and I'll save everyone's numbers and make a group chat to keep in touch." She says. -
Julius folded up the scrap of paper, pocketing and giving Reese a ridiculous smirk. "As you wish, m'lady." He adopted a more serious expression and tone as he turned to the others. "I guess we'd better get going then."
-
April said "Yeah. Thanks, Mr. Robot. We'll see you later." The robot said "Goodbye champions. I'll be waiting." With that, everyone made it out of the ship and out of the chamber to the top statue, where the entrance promptly closed. April looked at her watch and it showed it was 4:00, meaning they've been out for an hour.
-
Callyn turned around to look back at the spire while they were leaving it. "Huh," she said simply, unable to express everything they'd just experienced.
"I get exactly what you mean," Kim agreed with Callyn. He was excited, afraid, weirded out, confused, but most of all he was astonished.
Reese replies with a yawn. "Well that's an hour of sleep gone. See ya tomorr- er, well, I guess today," She says to the others casually before turning to walk away. -
Julius rubbed his face and stared at the sky. His legs felt like they were going to drop off. "See you guys later," he said simply, walking back home.
-
April said "Yeah, I'll see you guys later. Come on, Callyn. I don't want Mom and Dad waking up and not seeing us. Dad will panic."
-
"Yeah we better hurry," Callyn said as she grabbed the helmet she'd left on the tandem bike. Callyn then hopped on so that they could pedal back to April's place.
Kim stepped onto the skateboard he'd borrowed and rolled away. On his way back he started to regret how nerdy he had allowed himself to be this whole time.
Reese nervously watched as everyone went their separate ways before she too turned and walked back the way she came. -
Julius carefully opened the door to his house and his heart plummeted when he saw the light in the kitchen on. He tried to sneak up to his house but his mom flicked a light on to expose him.
"Where have you been, young man?" she said, her dark brown hair frizzy as she folded her arms.
"I went for a walk, Mom. I couldn't sleep," Julius said. It was half true anyway. His mom let out an audible "hmph".
"Don't you ever scare me like that again," she said, flicking the light off. "Now you go back to bed where you belong and don't come out until it's morning." -
April put on her own helmet and got on the bike to ride over to her house. Once they got home, April put the bike back and helped Callyn to sneak back in with her.
-
Callyn quietly snuck beside April as they returned the tandem bike to the cellar and made their way back to April's room.
Kim left the skateboard on his neighbor's sidewalk where he'd found it before. He shimmied his way through his bedroom's half-open window and plugged his phone into the charger before going to sleep.
Reese, acutely aware that she was a high school girl walking home alone very late at night, stepped up her pace. When she finally made it back home she practically lept back into her bed and under her covers. -
Julius speedily made his way back to his room. He could almost feel his mom's scorching gaze as he scurried up the stairs and shut his door with a sigh. Tomorrow would be a long day and it would take a good deal of convincing for his mom to let him go to "summer camp".
-
They snuck in without incident and April said "Let's see if we can't get some sleep. Good night, Callyn." Buttons got on her bed and said "Good night, April." April just petted him and repeated the message.
Morning came and April did not get up until 9:30. April groaned and stood up from her bed. She just rubbed her face and then flopped back on the bed. -
-
"'Night," Callyn responded to April, already half asleep. The next morning Callyn blinked groggily, but she made herself get up. She yawned and stretched, standing over April.
Kim woke up and smelled someone cooking breakfast. This happened sometimes when his one of hus family members was tired of cereal and decided to take matters into their own hands. What perfect timing, Kim needed a hearty meal after last night's escapade.
Reese woke up and found herself on the floor of her bedroom. This wasn't uncommon; she moved around a lot in her sleep and if she was really tired she wouldn't wake up if she fell off. Reese yawned and checked the time. -
Julius woke up to the sun glaring directly in his eyes, causing him to groan and throw his blanket over his face to shield himself. But in a moment he had thrown it off and was now blearily rubbing at his eyes, recalling the events of last night. Was it really true? Or had it just been some strange dream?
He focused on a glass of water on his nightstand, outstretching his arm and willing it to move. A single drop rose out of the glass and landed neatly in his palm. So it really was true.
