Ezra shivered, trying his hardest to prevent his lips from quivering too. “Well, I just hope we find this creek,” he sighed. He tried to ignore the sounds of crickets and crunching leaves, but it was all so every to him.

"So do I," Marissa said. The bugs were starting to come out. Fireflies danced about as they walked through the forest. "I think we should turn back," Marissa finally said.
-
Ezra caught a firefly, and cupped it in his hands. “Turn back?” He questioned. “Now? What would they think of us?” Ezra suddenly wasn’t as afraid anymore. It was as if these bugs had calmed him, helped him relax and forget about his dark fears for this journey.
-
"Well, maybe not directly," Marissa said. "But we could say that we got lost in the forest, couldn't find the creek, and got out by the skin of our teeth. It would make for a believable story."
-
Ezra thought about it for a minute, then shook his head. “No, no,” he said. “We can’t chicken out! At least, I won’t.” He pressed his lips together, looking at Marissa sternly. For whatever reason, he felt the need to look brave and courageous in front of her. Deep down, he was petrified and just wanted to go home, but he knew he had to try.
-
"It wouldn't exactly be 'chickening out,'" Marissa said. "We could accidentally-on-purpose get lost. And then we would spend enough time in the forest that it would look like we did it. And it's summer break, besides. Everyone will probably leave Stephanies house, and then when's the next time we'll see them? A few weeks? If it smells as bad as she says it does, I think it will wash off over the course of two or three weeks."
-
Ezra sighed, “Yeah, okay. Whatever,” he bit his lip without thinking. Ew, was he turning into Stephanie or something? “But what do we do in the event that we do find this creek?” He asked. Ezra had almost forgot that they were still walking, and stumbled over a broken branch.
-
Marissa pursed her lips. "Well, then if we want to prove ourselves, then we dunk ourselves in it," she said. "If we just don't care, then we could just pass it by."

“Yeah, alright,” Ezra mumbled as he dusted off his jeans. The sky was almost pitch black now and there weren’t many starts to give them light. The moon was also lurking behind them, unfortunately. Ezra kept his phone close, using it as a flashlight. He hoped Marissa had hers handy as well. His phone wasn’t going to last all night.

(I'm sorry, I'm a very independant person, so it's really hard for me to make a character that would do anything to fit in.)
Marissa shrugged. The only thing that lighted their way was Ezra's phone's flashlight. After awhile of walking and silence, she said, "I wonder if there are actually things out here." -
