Jenna nodded. "Thank you," she breathed out. She carefully pushed herself up into a sitting position with her left arm.

Jaiden laid flat on his back against the ground. He looked up and pressed his hands to his eyes. He started whispering, still struggling to breathe. “Good, Good” He spit out.

They both just stayed there like that, both breathing heavily, until Jenna asked, "Why'd you help me?"

Jaiden looked over at her and flash a smile. “Because you’re like me,” he chuckled as he said it.

"Well, then why were you running after me when the Hunters were chasing me?" Jenna asked. "I hadn't shown my powers until I Shifted into a bird."

(bump)

Jaiden sighed. “Because I was curious as to why a group of guards were trying to harm a young girl like yourself,” he rolled his eyes and jumped to his feet.

Jenna shook her head. "They're not Guards," she said. "They're Hunters."

Jaiden spat on the ground, then turned his head to look at the girl again. “Weren’t they the royal guard?”

"No," Jenna said. "They're Hunters. They're the best of the best. They hunt down people with magic. But they can be fooled if the Trail goes cold. Then they're stumped and can't go on. Even a strange look can be counted as part of the Trail."

Jaiden raised his palm and then a tiny sprout of fire rose from it. He placed it back to his side and the fire was gone. "So now they're after us both," he didn't even ask. He already knew the truth.

Jenna nodded. "We need to leave, and leave no Trail behind."

Jaiden glared at her and motioned his hand forward. "Then get up," he said.

Jenna sat still a moment, finding the will power too stand up. She struggled up. "I won't be using any magic anytime soon," she said. "Let's go." and she started walking.
