beepbeepmouse Newbie(Kat msg'ed me off site and after watching Altered Carbon again, I found the passion & energy I needed to actually respond to this aha)
Deiondre's brows furrowed as he processed what Hayleigh had said. "It's not meant to be eaten...? That's ridiculous! I'd kill to have even half of the amount of food they serve here!" He tensed, glancing at the people around them. Nobody even batted an eye at the word 'kill.' He was too paranoid. He slowly relaxed, sighing and shaking his head. "That's just.. Crazy."
At the mention of trouble, Lorrie perked up, a small smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. She had definitely chosen the right people to spy on. A butler walked past, and she hastily jerked a glass of wine from his tray and took a sip. She grimaced at the taste, giving the butler a look as he continued to walk past her. "Disgusting s---.." She muttered under her breath, keeping an eye on the strangers beside her.
Zea laughed softly at Alex's response. "That's certainly one way to put it, yes.." He paused, thinking carefully about how to word his next question. "What do you know about the Envoys, the.. Rebels? And how do you feel about them?"
Alyce tensed when she felt the gun pressing against her back. Every fiber of her being wanted to make a move, to knock the gun right out of her hands; but that would be a poor example. She thought again of the door and decided that it would be best to comply with her, to give her a sense of control over the situation. The android looked left to right, scanning for a spot with a smaller crowd. When she spotted one, she slowly advanced, making sure that Xena would be able to keep up without a struggle. -
Hayleigh chuckled a bit. "I mean, you can eat it, it's just not very good. Personally if I was going to eat somewhere fancy I'd do it at a restaurant, not a party." She looked around the crowd for her grandparents, but she still couldn't find them. She sighed.
"They contacted me on an anonymous messaging board," Nora explained, leaning in close. "The site automatically scrambles the addresses. I was on the shop's computer." She turned and looked around the party. "I don't know who I'm looking for, which is a pretty big disadvantage, but they also don't know who they're looking for. No clues, no planned meetuo spot, they just want me to be here." The more she thought about it, the more she realized just how shady the whole deal was. "s---. Milo, this is a setup." -
AsTR1D frowned. "My apologies. I should not have asked." AsTR1D hoped X would continue to talk to her, despite her slip up.
-
X said "It is okay. And if you don't mind, may I ask who is important in your life."
Alex said "The Envoy's? I've heard a lot of stories about them. I'm not sure how exactly I feel about them, but I heard I can get paid quite a good amount if I turn one in. Things I could do with that kind of money." -
"It can't be a set up as long as they don't even know who they're looking for," Milo assures Nora. "Well, they might have the upper hand since they know who you are but you don't know them, so for now we just gotta be vigilant," Milo says, glancing around suspiciously. "Let's stick together," Milo suggests.
Xena was internally freaking out. She was holding a person at gunpoint, how much lower could she possibly go? What next, was she gonna rob a gas station for her next meal? The redhead was leading them to somewhere less crowded so Xena just followed behind her compliantly.
Ruby was having a blast. She rarely had time on her own and away from Milo. She didn't mind him, but she sometimes forgot how freeing it was to explore things for herself.
"What's that?" Ruby asks some random blonde lady in a fancy jewel incrusted dress, pointing at something above them. "That's.. a chandeliar?" The lady says hesitantly, kind of surprised that someone obviously not at her level would dare speak to her. -
beepbeepmouse Newbie(Ruby, I love you sm wtf)
Deiondre barely left his house other than to purchase necessities or get jobs done, so he wasn't too sure if her words were accurate. "I see," he said, unable to figure out what he wanted to respond with. "Perhaps you could.. U-uh," Deiondre stopped himself as he realized what he was about to say. He cleared his throat and bit his lower lip, trying to concentrate on something else. He noticed her look of disappointment- at least, he assumed it was disappointment- and decided to try and move on from their previous conversation. "Are you alright?"
Set up? Lorrie glanced at the couple, taking in their appearance. The girl had short hair with streaks of blue in it, and she definitely had a vibe of someone who dealt with underground dealings. The man had long, curly hair that fell all the way down to his waist. He, too, had that same "vibe," but there was something about him that struck her differently from the girl. When she saw the man glancing around, she hastily looked away from them, hoping that he hadn't caught her staring. She only wanted to watch their business, not necessarily get involved in it.
Zea nodded, reaching up to his shoulder to gently stroke the little bot that was perched there. "You are absolutely right, Alex," he said calmly. He then reached for his pocket, producing a small card. It looked blank, but as Zea held it out to Alex, it tilted sideways and words appeared in fancy silver lettering like magic. "If you're interested in finding out how you can get paid quite a bit, please feel free to reach out to me," he said, tapping on the card with his middle finger. "I believe that I have a job for you that you'd really be into."
When they made it to the area that was less crowded, Alyce stopped, swallowing and slowly turning her head just enough to glance at Ruby. "May I turn around?" She asked, making sure to keep still and not make any sudden movements. "I'd like to be able to see you while I'm talking to you, if that is a possibility.."
Hurleigh stepped out of the elevator and adjusted his tux. His eyes swept over the crowd that was there that night; there were many different types of people, all of them from different walks of life and backgrounds. As he walked forward, several people greeted him and tried to catch his attention. He nodded towards them, but he had no interest in small talk. Not with them. As he neared the center of this particular room, he caught sight of an android that sparked his interest. She seemed to be asking a rich woman a question about.. He glanced up at the direction she was pointing at and saw the chandelier. He smiled and pushed through the crowd to get over to them. "Hello, ladies," he said, nodding towards the woman and then the android. "Is everything alright here?" -
Hayleigh jumped a bit, surprised. "What? Oh, I'm fine, I just..." She sighed and slouched. "I didn't really want to come tonight, you know? But my grandparents forced me to. And I can't find them." She shook her head. She figured it'd be better to not talk about such things in fro t of someone she didn't know, especially someone of a certain... class... but she felt like she could trust Deiondre.
Nora glanced to her right, and saw a girl she didn't know quickly look away. She tensed up, but kept her gaze firmly on Milo. "Stop looking around. Focus on me. There's a girl over there who looked at us just now. She could be undercover." She whispered. Then, to make herself seem less suspicious, she laughed as if she had just told a joke, and kicked her friend's foot to signal him to join her.
(No formatting tonight because I'm lazy lol) -
AsTR1D smiled. "Well, Dominic and Danika are my top priorities. They're the most wonderful people I know!" AsTR1D gushed. She looked around the room, as if they were going to randomly pop up. This party was...interesting, to say the least.
-
X said "Well that's good."
Alex looked at the card and said "I'll look into it. Seems like a good opportunity." -
Milo got the message and laughed as well. He tries not to eye the girl Nora is talking about, because that would let them know that they were on to them. "We could head outside, see if they follow us," Milo suggests in a fertive whisper.
"Ye.." Xena begins to say, but her voice breaks and drifts off. She is painfully aware that she really shouldn't speak anymore, but she tries not to showcase her discomfort. Xena backs the gun away from the redhead and lowers it, though she doesn't pocket it (just in case)
Ruby nods, completely fascinated. "What does it do?" Ruby asks. "Well, not much anything. It provides light in some cases, other times it's just there for decoration," the blonde lady says with a slight British accent. She begins to walk away from the strange red haired girl. Ruby follows alongside her, not understanding that the blonde didn't want to be with her anymore. "Why does your dress sparkle so much? Is it for decoration too? Your face is glittery, is that for decoration? Is the food decoration, since no one seems to be eating it?" Ruby shoots question after question. She couldn't quite perceive how so many useless things could exist purely for human aesthetic entertainment.
